T. Coraghessan Boyle’s “Greasy Lake” is a timeless tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat if it was a movie, but in this case this short story will have your eyes glued to the page. We will discover Boyle’s arrangement of incidents in this story as he explain the plot from the beginning that talks about “ There was a time “ Which clearly states that this story was a flashback of the pass. The story begins talking about a small group of teenagers that think they are the baddest things in the neighborhood. One particular summer these guys were looking to get into some fun or in this story case trouble. I was once told what ever you are looking for if you look hard enough sooner or later you are going to find it. Sure enough the fellows …show more content…
Greasy Lakes was the place they would go to hang out and drink. Keep in mind two things, one is that these boys where still teenagers and two there were so called bad. So they went to Greasy Lakes to getaway to smoke, drink, clear their minds, watch girls take off their clothes, throw rock and things into the lake as well as plunge in to the lake. The reason they called the Lake Greasy is because the lake was dirty and nasty, it was more like a swamp. They finally arrived at the lake and the see a car that looks like a friend of theirs. Normal when you see another car at the lake some is chilling or speeding time with their girl. So the fellas decided that they wanted to play a little joke on their friend. They began to honk their horns and flash their headlights at them to bother them. Then they decided that they wanted to take it an extra step by getting out of the car and rubbing their face against the window. This particular night the guys had too much to drink and they were not in the right mind. As they got closer to the car they realize that this was not their friend car, by this time is was a little to late to take back all of the disturbance that they had caused. The story talk about how a man jumped out of the car called the greasy character who was clearly a man action, …show more content…
His friends came out of the forest also at the same time as they began to just look at each other in shock. Then they look at how the car had been beaten up and filled with trash, and then they saw the bright side and realize that the car was still drivable because the tires had not been slashed. They began to clean out the car when they see a car pull up thinking it was the greasy man coming back for them. To their surprise it was a two drunken girls looking for their friend the greasy man. The two girls walks up to the car to ask the guys about their friend not noticing how the car was beat up and how dirty the guys looked. The guys were so scared at first they didn’t speak until one of the snapped out to answer their question. One of the girls goes on to ask the guys if they wanted to do drugs with her and her friend. The quickly said no and went home and that was the end of the story. I believe that night taught the boys a very valuable lesson to stop hanging out and looking for trouble. At one point in the story one of the guys thought about how was he going to explain everything to his mother, what lies was he going to come up with? Then he later realizes that he was alive and well and there was a man who was in the lake dead. So he realizes that he is not doing half bad. The story is a great timeless tale. I think it make youth and young think twice before you try to be cool

In the short story "Greasy Lake" by T. Coraghessan Boyle, the narrator uses first person point of view to convey how "bad" he and his friends were when they were just out of high school. The author chooses this point of view to illustrate to readers that pretending to be someone that you aren't, could affect your judgment and leave you facing major consequences. The rebellious teenagers acted as to rebels that were dangerous, wearing leather jackets, drinking gin, reading provocative literature, and staying out all night. However, throughout the short story, the narrator tends to mock himself and his friends because they both know they aren't really dangerous and only show their rebellious side on the outside. For example, He says they "struck…

We were not born to initially understand the responsibilities of adulthood. Everything after birth is a learned behavior, we either visually or physically learn something; we are taught how to walk, how to run, and how to write are own name. As we grow older we are more aware of our surroundings, so we are able to choose from what we find an interest in. Figuring out what we like helps in deciding what we want to learn and what we want to become, all of this is based off the actions we see in other individuals and our surroundings. The narrator in “Greasy Lake” by T. Coraghessan Boyle, has altered his characteristics throughout the story, but by the end he comes to the realization of who he wants to be, by accepting and acknowledging his faults, being aware of who is around, and choosing to let go of negative events that occurred in his life, due to this the narrator has become mature.…
