Grayhawk: The Qualities Of A Good Leader

What does being president of a group like NJHS, a group of scholars with a commitment to service and the betterment of others, mean? It means you are leading a group of leaders. To be a leader of such a group you have to hold yourself to the highest regard, remain fair, honest, ahead of the curve in schooling, sports, and teacher and student relations. It also takes humility, self sacrifice, grace, accountability, and constantly striving to be your better self, not competing with the group, but rather yourself. Additionally, being well spoken, a personal presence in a crowd, and to be able to command a room, but speaking with people, not at them. In another sense, to be president I believe that the person elected should have experience. For me that was when I was president of the Student Government at my elementary school, Grayhawk. Another thing I believe is an important element for a leader is having gone through tragedy and faced adversity in their life. Neither of which stopped me becoming President of Student Government in 6th grade, which was only 4 weeks after the events. I won’t go into detail of what the events that occurred were, but they did shape me into a leader. …show more content…
It’s about learning to recognize the difference between doing what’s easy and what’s right. It’s also striving to become a better self, while inspiring others. An example I hope some people in this audience know is Nelson Mandela. He is a great leader that was wrongfully accused, but he never wanted to get back at the people who imprisoned him. He just wanted to have everyone love each other. The reason I incorporated this is because of what I mentioned earlier. To be a leader is to sacrifice yourself to a better cause. For Mandela that meant a country. For us, it means our community around us. Thank

I believe a good quality that every leader should have is a good dream. Martin Luther King Jr. for example was a great leader because he had a dream that others could relate to. He wanted blacks to be treated equally, and with his “I have a dream” Speach it helped pass the dream along. You also need to be good at convincing people to agree with your side. If no one wants to vote for your side then your not a good leader.…

Stumbling upon this quote freshman year, and since then, the quote has deeply ingrained itself in my brain-- the significant effects of the quote to my life unforeseen at the time. Ayn Rand, a Russian novelist, once stated, “The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.” As my eyes brushed upon every word, it resonated with me. The quote by the novelist are words I hold with the highest of regards, and undoubtedly, I now apply it to everyday life, notably in decision making. It resonated with me, and the reason, attributed to the ability of the words to spur feelings of determination and inspiration to strive for greatness.…

Something that makes a leader is seen in all of us. Leadership skills don’t only consist on how courageous or strong you are. Being a leader is more about your commitment, passion, and trustworthiness. Leaders have been seen all over the era of slavery by many slave abolitionists that have put their mind to something and changed America as we know it. Strictly speaking, I never really be a leader. I personally didn’t have many opportunities or the desire to be a leader. This is about my personality, but I do want to push myself a little and have some experiences before I start my career. The closest title that I ever had as a leader was the Vice President of service for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) in my previous college. When I was offered the opportunity, I knew I had to take the responsibility because I thought that could be my first time being a leader.…

While scholarship and dedication to learning are important to one’s success, incorporating values of leadership and service are integral to a well-rounded and nuanced education. Not only must a scholar have a substantial knowledge of the world around them, but they must know how to use this knowledge for good and how to impart it to others. A community can not sustain itself with knowledge alone. There must exist some concept of a greater good for a group to truly thrive. This mix of academic scholarship and a strong feeling of public responsibility, as well as a richness of character, makes a true leader and a worthy role model.…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. The two I have worked under were inspiring leaders who worked diligently to lead the teachers on the missions they declared for the school.
