The article "Why Tipping Is Wrong" by the New York restaurateur Danny Meyer, talks about the pros and cons of tipping in restaurants. In my opinion, tipping should be optional to whom would like to leave a tip. I disagree with the article "Why Tipping Is Wrong" for the reason of people work hard to get your meal to you in a efficient manner and give you appreciable customer service. In the article "Why Tipping Is Wrong" states "Tipping has created a two-tiered wage system with deep social and economic consequences for millions". Throughout the article "Why Tipping Is Wrong" I realize that there are many different variations that tipping is being described as racism.…

Small parties do not tend to tip really well unless I personally know them.” For Acosta, he relies on his regulars that he has accumulated over the years to tip him the most. “My regulars are the ones who tip me the most because they have known me for a while and know my personality,” says Acosta.…

The impatient taps of the person behind you annoyed because the coffee barista is taking longer to get your venti iced black coffee ready. Your break is almost at its end as the barista rushes to hand you your coffee. You stop for a second staring at the box labeled ‘tips’ debating whether to leave a tip or not, of course you don’t and just walk away as the person behind you sneers and slips a five-dollar bill in the tip jar. For what is the reason for tipping, isn’t the person just doing their job, it is what they are paid for. Michael Lewis in his article, “The Case Against Tipping,” published in 1997 in the New York Times Magazine, takes on the controversy of tipping.…

With the abolishment of tipping in the food industry, it would force a majority of restaurants to close their businesses. The Reason we are able to go to a local restaurant and eat a meal for a decent price is because of the restaurants budgeting. Food servers get paid less than any other employees in the work force of America. With the abolishment of tipping we would cause restaurants to have to increase the pay of the servers. That would mean that the restaurant would have to increase the prices of their meals and drinks to make up for the labor wage increase .…

History does not always repeat itself, but on numerous occasions, it comes very close. If any evidence is necessary for one to believe the concept of repetitive history, look no further than past anti-Chinese immigration sentiments and current anti-Mexican immigration sentiments in America. Moreover, since food and culture are inextricably intertwined, the stereotypes many Americans have for immigrants is reflected in how Americans treat and perceive immigrants’ cultural cuisine. As stated in the film The Search for General Tso, authentic Chinese food was considered scary and unappealing when Chinese-American relations were tense, but when positive diplomacy was reinstated, the cuisine became popular again. Currently, however, Mexican-American relations are strained and Mexican food is facing the consequences.…

An hourly pay rate would actually do more harm than good. With no incentive to work hard and get a good tip, servers might not work as hard and give customers the best possible experience. In an interview with restaurant servers “They all strongly agreed that overall service quality would drop precipitously if their tip income were replaced with a fixed hourly wage” (McKenzie 2). I just make sense to keep the tipping system. There is actually a current law that states that businesses don’t have to pay their servers minimum wage.…

Why Tipping Should be Banned Although, Americans have grown accustomed to believing tipping a waiter or a waitress at a restaurant is part of the American dining experience, the fact is, it is a borrowed custom from Europe (Burton). According to Michael Lynn, a professor at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, “tipping in the United States began just after the American Civil War in the late 1800’s.” The custom was introduced again in the United States when wealthy Americans traveled to Europe, witnessed tipping, and brought the aristocratic custom back to prove their elevated education and class (Burton). History claims that tipping originated in the taverns of 17th century England, where drinkers would slip money to a waiter…

In consideration of a junk food tax, investigation of potential impact on the individual is of particular significance. It is imperative not only in aiding assessment without oversight of the direct nature of the impact such policy would ultimately have on Australians, but also in recognition that the overall outcome is composed of the sum of individual effect. Support for the tax is driven by the goal to lower the extent of many individuals’ consumption of foods not conducive to achieving and maintaining body mass indices (BMI) in the healthy range. As those with BMIs beyond the healthy range are known to be at major risk for health conditions such as diabetes, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, and degenerative musculoskeletal disorders…
