Children mimic what they watch, especially at a younger age. When they see violent acts in music videos, or in movies, that they think are cool they will want to copy that action. These graphic scenes can influence children very negatively, back in 2007, Daniel Petric a 16 year old boy snuck out of his house to buy a video game his father didn’t want him to have. His father said this game was too violent for someone his age to be playing. After Daniel bought the game behind his parents back he was caught, they took the game and locked it away. A little while later he got the key and took his fathers gun and the game, he killed his mother and severely injured his father. (7) In a recent study “97% of teens in the U.S. play video games.” The Kaiser Family Foundation had a survey that showed children to teens ages eight to eighteen spend about seven and a half hours a day playing video games. This shows that a majority of the day is spent playing video games, most of the popular video games include many acts of violence. Where leveling up or progressing through the game involves the player actually fighting or battle another player. The more violence children see in video games the more aggressive they become.
