Let’s start at the very beginning; a very good place to start. Meaning the beginning of my life course!
Background Info/ Intro Hi! I'm Julie Andrews! I was born October, 1, 1935 in Walton-On-Thames, Surrey, England, UK, to Barbara and Ted Wells. When I was just a small girl, My parents got divorced. My mother wanted to pursue a life on the stage as a pianist. She remarried to Ted Andrews when I was around seven or eight. My new stepfather, Ted, was a professional singer. He and my other put together a music act that toured all over England.

At age eight we discovered that I had a talent for singing. I studied music a lot, then at age ten joined my parents' music act.

Then I started to act a little bit. Some were minor roles but it was the start of an acting career all the same.
Main Idea 2 In 1954 as a young actress I moved to the United States to act in a Broadway production of the movie The Boy Friend. After I was done with that role, I moved back to the UK and married Tony Walton in 1959. In 1964 took the role of what might have been the biggest role of my life, Mary Poppins, in which I won the best actress award at the Oscars. The next year, in 1965 I starred in The Sound Of Music, which was also a big hit.

In 1967 I divorced Tony Walton and two years later married movie director, Blake Edwards. In 1971, I started writing books for young children. In 1972 and 1973 I hosted my own television show on CBS and after that I only played smaller roles in movies through the '70's and '80's.

In the '90's, I spent lots of my time with charities and community service projects. I was the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development for Women, which helped women in impoverished countries.
