In my essay, I plan on discussing the Grandmother’s need for redemption in “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”. The Grandmother, at the beginning at the story, wishes to visit east Tennessee rather than go to Florida due to a convict named The Misfit was on the run. During the journey, the Grandmother inadvertently causes an accident which attracts the attention of three males who happened to have been driving by. The Grandmother recognizes one of the males as being The Misfit. Throughout the last few pages of the short story, the Misfit and the two other males kill the family one at a time by taking small sections of the family into the woods and shoot the ones that the two

In Flannery O 'Connor 's short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” a grandmother and her son 's family decide to take a roadtrip to Florida. During their journey, the family encounters a few mishaps that prevent them from having a successful trip. Unfortunately, they run into a group of convicts, the leader being The Misfit who decides to kill the whole family. With the use of textual evidence, it can be argued that it is the grandmas fault that her whole family, including herself, is killed by the Misfit and his gang. Twain uses this scathing comment to criticize the hypocrisy of the time. Tom’s Aunt practically states the African Americans are not people with that sentence. The second example would be found where Huck again concocts a story to avoid being caught when he pretends to be a runaway boy to trick a woman into telling him about the search for Jim, his runaway African American friend. She tries to help Huck, but states that she had sent her husband with a shotgun to go look for him on an island and that he can “slip around through the woods and hunt up his campfire…” (Twain 58). Twain uses Huck’s story to equate Huck and Jim, as they are both runaways, and then he portrays the hypocrisy and inequality when the woman states that she sent her husband to hunt Jim.…
