On Sunday 10/16/2016 the world’s oldest living panda, Jia Jia had died in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park. According to Ocean Park, Jia Jia’s health had been “rapidly deteriorating” for several weeks and had gotten so bad on Sunday that the zoo officials decided to euthanize Jia Jia.

Nicknamed the “Grandma Panda” Jia Jia is 37 years old which is equivalent to 114-years-old in human terms even though the average life expectancy of a giant panda is often just a little above 20 years with human care. Additionally, Jia Jia was also reported to have been suffering from multiple geriatric diseases, such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and cataracts on both eyes.
