Why Is My Grandmother Important To Me

In my life there have been many influential people who have helped me become who I am today. Whether they are part of my family, one of my friends, or a teacher that I had throughout my years in school, each person has managed to make an impact on my life, even if I did not notice it at the time. One person in particular has fed and continues to feed my mind with both love and reverence. That person is my Grandma Lela. My Grandma, even though she does not have a license in education, has taught me many things that I want to emulate in my future classroom. During her life, my grandma has had six children, 17 grandchildren, worked as a nurse, and still found time to keep strong in her faith. I have witnessed her manage multiple grandkids all trying to get her attention. I have witnessed her be very patient with my cousins as each of them tell her about things that interest them, even if she truly knows nothing about the topic. I have also witnessed her create time to have one-on-one conversations with not only her children, but her grandchildren and her sons- and daughters-in-laws. Even if it was just a five minute conversation, she will give them her undivided attention. To me an excellent educator wants his or her students to become the best versions of their selves. But to do that the teacher must have patience with his or her students and be able to spend time getting to know his or her students. It is very important that educators create a relationship with their students so that learning can be done without nervousness or judgement. This relationship can be created by having patience and getting to know the students individual interests and using that information to become the best educator
