Grand Theft Auto V Analysis

Grand Theft Auto V is a video game designed by Rockstar North and was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. The game revolves around three protagonists or antagonist (depending on your views) named Franklin, Michael, and Trevor who are all on a mission to succeed in the city of saints, Los Santos, which in itself is a satirical reimagining of modern day Los Angeles. The game starts off with a bank robbery that occurs in the small city of North Yankton. Here you are introduced to Michael, Trevor, and Brad who attempt to escape a barrage of mid-western cops. However, their plan goes sour when Michael and Brad get shot and are presumed dead, forcing Trevor to retreat into the wilderness. Macbeth also, when it was released, used a lot of its own cliché elements for the time. The controversial use of witches in the storyline is one that many people at that time viewed as a very uncalled for gesture to act. In today 's world, it wouldn 't seem to be such a huge deal to use dark characters in literature or other media styles. This controversy also connects with Grand Theft Auto 's own issues when dealing with the opinion of the general public. Many people view Grand Theft Auto as a bad video game, from its use of foul language to some nudity. However, in modern media today, I feel as though you have to use a little bit of controversy to gain attention to your works of art. In both Rockstar North 's and even Shakespeare 's works, they use a kind of controversy that in the end supplies the masses with a likable project that holds a special place in people 's hearts. In the case of the Great Gatsby, it is much easier to draw a connection between the two. Both stories follow the ideology of the "American Dream". Both Nick Carraway and Franklin Clinton are people trying to escape who they really are and make more money while doing it. Upon playing this game for the first time, I realized its addictive gameplay and biting storyline. I knew it would be the perfect medium to use when this project was brought up due to the broad array of connections that could be made towards it and almost any other form of suggested social commentary.
