Macy states, " Grand Theft Auto V has now sold 54 million copies across all platforms." This is an obscured amount of games sold. Furthermore Grand Theft Auto is a game where someone can follow the story of the game, which is about a couple of characters who to make a living sell drugs, steal, and kill people. This is completely true, but this essay is about the people who are affected by violent video games like Grand Theft Auto, and how it can affect the mind of someone. After my experience with playing Grand Theft Auto, I could not believe the amount of younger kids that play the game. When I say younger kids I don’t mean seventeen and below, I am talking around twelve and below. The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry wrote an article on younger kids playing violent video games called “Video Games and Children,” in this article they had an interesting statement, “Studies of children exposed to violent media have shown that they may become numb to violence, imitate the violence, and show more aggressive behavior. Younger children and those with emotional, behavioral or learning problems may be more influenced by violent images.” The argument over this statement is pretty straight forward, people under the age of seventeen are not supposed to be able to play Grand Theft Auto because it is rated M for mature only. Yet again this argument is completely true, unfortunately these kids parents buy their kids the game for them so that they are able to play

While playing the game, kids have the time of their life enjoying all the graphic content the game provides. Although violent videogames do expose adolescents to graphic content, that does not mean the viewer will become violent themselves. Videogames should not be the scapegoat for when teen violence occurs.
