Grand Canyon University: Christian Identity And Heritage

Decent Essays
After reading the Grand Canyon University (GCU) doctrinal statement and Christian Identity and Heritage, I have a greater understanding of what the school stands for. I personally choice this school because many colleagues at my job attend GCU and I heard positive things about the university but I did not know it had a strong Christian faith and background. The GCU Christian heritage makes GCU academic experience different because of the strong belief. They believe in something and believing in something is a good thing. People sometimes go down paths they should not and having a belief may help them find salvation. I believe a religion and a belief are two separate things and GCU does not seem like the kind of university to push to a religion

The Shawnee Prophet by R. David Edmund is a book to tell the story of Tenskwatawa’s life and the way he believed he was leading his people, the Shawnee. Edmund researched a lot about the Shawnee people and why the Shawnee Prophet was the leading figure. I think one of the main themes from this book is the importance of Tenskwatawa and Tecumseh to the Shawnee people. Tenskwatawa, formally known as Lalawethika was a drunk until he was in a coma and when he woke up he believed he seen a vision. And the Shawnees viewed him as a prophet.…

In a nation that pledges allegiance to itself under god, religion is bound to become a factor in the politics that govern it. Religion did not start to be integrated into public affairs until the mid 1980s. It was at this time that abortion and other personal issues began to emerge into the political spectrum. By incorporating aspects of the moral being into government decisions, coalitions were formed to unite for certain issues. Due to the increased combination of religion and partisanship, the ideologies of religious politics and political religion became more prominent, as can be seen in the case of abortion described in American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us.…

In today's society there are hundreds of christian denominations around the world and without Brigham Young the book of mormon would have just been classified as fantasy instead of non-fiction. In the United States alone there are over six million Mormons. Brigham has been called the modern day moses for bringing the teachings of Joseph Smith to the people after Smith's death in 1844. The Mormon church would not be anywhere close to where it is today if it weren't for Young. Not much of Young's early life is known but it is known that he was born June 1, 1801 in Whitingham, Virginia to a farming family and worked as a traveling blacksmith/ carpenter and was married to his first wife in 1824 to Miriam Angeline Works.…

When I view the world around me, I see darkness. I see broken people with hurting hearts hurting others. What I also see are Christians.
