On November 26, I went and visited an extraordinary places, and that place is called the Grammy Museum. It consists of many things some being exhibits about Michael Jackson, the Ramones and the birth of punk. There was even an exhibit dedicated to the Kingston Trio. All of these exhibits were extremely decorated with a lot of memorabilia. At first I honestly thought that this trip was going to be a bust, but in reality it wasn’t. It was actually very entertaining and fun because it contains lots and lots of pictures, facts, and actual clothing that some famous people actually wore. This was a place that I honestly thought really is for the enthusiast because it contains some valuable artifacts and allows one to see it up close almost like if

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

My analysis of the exhibition was that it presented the various and diverse collections of American history that influenced the civil right movement. What caught my eye initially was the N.A.A.C.P. Flag “A Man Was Lynched Yesterday” memorabilia. It very important to see that even though the NAACP did not have a significant presence in the southern states, that the organization alerted the nation of the heinous crime of lynching. To walk to down the street and see that flag waving is vital because lynching was the dehumanization of African Americans. Lynching not only disenfranchised African American but also affected their mortality and employment rate in their respective community.…

I visited Mitchell Museum of the American Indian located at 3001 Central Street, Evanston, Illinois. Glancing through the outside of the museum, my impression was this is a pretty small building. I had a single story about the building; I thought I might have chosen the wrong museum to go to since it is small in size. However, as soon as I walked through the main door, I had a good feeling in a cozy building with full of American Indian artifacts, pottery, and native fashion. I was filled with more knowledge through the major regions of United States and Canada such as Woodland, Plains, Southwest, Northwest, and Arctic.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

Thomas Merton once said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” This quote is true, but it isn’t the whole story. A more appropriate description is: art gives the one looking at it an extraordinary feeling that is partially described by the quote above, but the only way to really know what that feeling is like is to experience it. In Mason City, we are very lucky to be able to have the chance to experience art in a variety of ways at our art museum, the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum. A part of their mission statement, as written on their website, is to “...sustain a thriving environment in which American art and exceptional collections are collected, stored, and displayed...”…

I was completely clueless about museums and didn't know what to make of them. I went online and read a little about the museum and found out that it was one of the top five museums in the country because of its cultural diversity and integrated urban population. The personnel gave me a brief tour of the museum and told me the museum does not hold gallery collections, but their exhibition is based on a periodic basis. The museum was also filled with visitors and their families, all engaged in a series of photo shoots.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
