With good grammar the students would look even more educated than other students applying to the same school. Also it's important for students to have proper grammar after high school. The students are going to be adults it's necessary for them to have it. The internet can also help with this. High school is a staple of American culture. Popular culture is littered with high school imagery: cheerleaders at the homecoming game, senior prom, and finally, graduation. It is a major time of growth for adolescents and serves as a stepping stone into the adult world, giving students the skills and experiences needed to be successful later in life. However our perception of high school and the ‘high school experience’ is rapidly changing as alternatives to traditional schooling appear. An excellent example of this is an emerging program commonly referred to as ‘early college high school’, a duel enrollment program that allows high school students to receive an associate’s degree while earning their high school diploma.…

Argumentative Essay on Grammar I believe grammar should be emphasized in the school district. So that when the children at that school have a better chance of getting through college and getting a job. Some jobs make it to where you have to have good grammar to get the job. As well as colleges if you don’t have good grammar in college it would make you look bad.…

Although my grammar is not perfect, it is nowhere near horrible. My grammar proficiency is likely on par with the general population, and I think it is for that reason why I feel like I am not on the same level of "grammar-superiority" as individuals like Kyle Wiens and other self-procalimed "grammar sticklers". Another "stickler" mentioned in Wiens' article is Lynne Truss, who is quoted saying that people who make common grammar mistakes "deserve to be struck by lightning, hacked up on the spot, and buried in an unmarked grave". As stated before, grammar is arbitrary. So for Truss to say something so severe in reaction to grammar mistakes leads me to believe that Truss only rates people's worth based on their grammar, rather than their other good qualities.…

Editorial In Kathleen Parkers, “Do Commas Still Matter”, she discusses how the younger generation has become more reliant on technology vs. the older generations. Parker argues that we are being taught shortcuts, which will alter the bigger picture later on in life. I do agree with Parkers general statement and believe she’s presented this notion greatly. Parker opens the article with solid emotional appeal, joking that “using grammar was the eight deadly sin in my childhood home”.…

Conflating the desire to help other people communicate clearly by advising them on how to improve their clarity by using correct English with the hideous, world-changing crimes of Hitler and his ilk has got to be the worst – and sadly, most common – application of Godwin’s law on the internet. Offer one grammar suggestion in the course of an internet conversation and suddenly highly intelligent people, who were just moments before bemoaning the dumbing down of society, are ready to compare you to the perpetrators of some of the most heinous war crimes in recent history. Needless to say (but I’m going to say it anyway), equating the desire to see good grammar with genocidal mania is a bit of a false equivalency. In fact, as an English teacher, I would venture so far as to…

I actually very much so enjoyed writing throughout elementary school because I was able to write stories. This style of writing was enjoyable to me because it allowed me to let my creativity soar, and not only did it help my grammar, it also helped my penmanship. This style was also way more exciting than filling out worksheets or practicing spelling words out on a white board. But, in fourth grade, half of our english class was spent learning grammar. I constantly struggled in that class and never could seem to grasp the concepts.…

The problem with this is that “… some teachers worry, they may lose ability to do so in writing” (souce). Although these complains are logical, there teachers failed to research different variables. The automatically assumed that the students were struggling with grammar because of texting. It could be that they do not have a full understanding of where commas should be placed. In a more broad range, the teachers made the assumption that all the students use text messaging.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

It is not just about writing good grammar it is how you use proper grammar in your daily life. In addition, Kyle also states “Grammar is my litmus test. All applicants say they’re detail-oriented; I just make my employees prove it” (Wiens 104).…

Language arts skills can help me reach my career goals by allowing me to be grammatically correct in my work. Grammar errors can cause confusion to those who are reading your work and can make it difficult for them to understand your writing. Reducing any errors by proofreading is important in a medical facility. Spelling mistakes can have severe consequences. If your physician asks you to write a prescription, some medications can have a one letter difference.…

I did not understand why the writer would desire for his students to write poorly. After reading the entire essay, I was mind blown at Ballenger’s discussion. The writer believed that if educators allowed for their students to write poorly instead of haunting them with the rules of grammar, then the students would be able to sufficiently improve as writers. If writing badly was allowed, students would not pull an all-nighter just to get an essay perfect. We have been transformed into writing perfectionists, not by delivering a perfectly moving essay, but by having it perfectly basic to seek the unlikely approval of the infamous ‘Grammar…

According to George Orwell in “politics and the English Language” in 1946 Wrote that the English way of writing “becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.” That strikes me as an essential truth. Unless you understand why that particular word needs to go there, and why this word is wrong and that word is right, you don't even know exactly what you want to say. If you don't know what you're saying, how can you expect anyone else to understand wherever you are trying to convey to the reader. Bad grammar isn't a matter of typography.…

With improper English grammar, an idea might never be expressed as intended, leaving an idea of great merit as misunderstood and of little value. While perfect English grammar would convey an idea with great success in understanding, the idea itself would have to have some importance to be considered worthwhile. This quote pretty much says it all, “When you speak, you project your level of intelligence and thoughtfulness” (Adam, 2012). 2.…
