I was over there to do laundry, sometimes I would just go to the laundry mat, it went faster and wasn’t very far from the house. But I liked spending time with my mom and gramma, I missed them, even though we talked everyday on the phone.

The next week when I arrived, Gramma called me to her room. “You,” she broke into laughter, “remember that face you drew?” “Ya?” I questioned. “Well,” wiping the tears, “You drew it on the wrong end.” By this time she was laughing so hard I started to laugh myself. I asked, “What do you mean, wrong end?” “You

My grandparents, John Bernard “Jack” Timmons and Ellen Amanda “Ella” were married 20 April 1918 in a Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. Their daughter, Jean was born almost four years later in 1922. I believe I recall my mother saying that her mother had a difficult time carrying a child and miscarried two or three babies prior to Jean being born but, I don’t remember any specific details. After Jean there was no more children born to Jack and Ella. Jean Timmons was the only child of Jack and Ella.…

February 16, 2017 Dear Ms. Wasson, Intriguing, unexpected, and complex, A Wrinkle In Time was very entertaining and kept me engaged from start to finish. Madeleine L’Engle balances complicated concepts with ideas like love and tenacity to form a book that is almost impossible to put down and deserves a solid 9/10.…

Heidi’s actions here surprised me because she usually acts gently and understandingly towards her mama rather than aggressively. One example of her acting gently towards her mama is on page 47. “ Sometimes I’d sit down next to her on the couch, open a magazine, and flip through the pictures, pointing to things-a baby, a dog, a car. ‘Show me soof, Mama. Is this soof?…

WHEN WINIFRED had at last recognized the young woman in the buckboard as Lorelei Hansmueller, she walked, ever so slowly and non-chalantly, over to where Winston sat in his wheel-chair and whispered softly in an urgent voice, “Win-ston!!” “I know my dear.” “Whatever are we to do? At my birth, I received a gift from the devil. Since I didn’t give a damn about anything other than my pacifier, I had no idea about my hair color, my jaundiced skin, or the UV light over me to try to get rid of the extra bilirubin in my blood. How would I know that my mom would have met someone with the rarest blood type in the world, one that would cause me to destroy my own blood cells and release their contents into my veins? The yellow color would soon go away forever, only memorialized by all the photographs taken by my proud parents. “Why do you look so yellow?” said my best friend Garret when I showed him my baby shots.…

My mother is not an exceptionally beautiful woman. She would not be remembered as a modern-day Helen of Troy, whose face launched a thousand ships, or a sumptuous vixen like Marilyn Monroe. She is a woman who seamlessly blends into a crowd, with a face people could confuse with another; maybe a friend's mom, a distant relative or the owner of a bakery down the street. She has the face of a million women and none of them are exceptionally special; none of them exceptionally beautiful. My mother is a plain-Jane; a woman whose attraction is reflected through her personality.…
