Of course freedom is part of the American culture. Langston Hughes felt this way when slavery was abolished, "Tomorrow, I'll be at the table When company comes. Nobody'll dare say to me, 'Eat in the kitchen,' Then."(Hughes, lines 8-14). Being a slave meant that you had no freedom whatsoever. Since slavery was abolished, Hughes felt that he should exercise his rights of being a free American. Which was the start of how freedom is part of being an American. Starting with how Jonathan B. believes that every American may or may not admit their love for their country, "...every person has a part of being an American in them, deep inside, embedded, until they wish to release that piece, and share it with world"(Jonathan B.). Deep down inside you is the fire that burns for America. If it wasn't for this country, there would be no reason for you to be proud of being an American. Secondly, the many soldiers that have given their lives to our country had the most pride and honor, “And when they died, the American flag wrapped them in love, and draped honor over their caskets...Old Glory flies proudly over their graves...” (Lt. Col. Bohn E. Wanamaker). Giving your life for this country shows how proud you are to be an American. The pride you feel for this country shows in what you do for America. Last, but not least, Walt Whitman and his fellow Americans were enjoying the American dream, “Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs” (Whitman, Line 11). Americans work hard everyday and they still have pride in their country. Whether they enjoyed their day or not, they still have love and pride in their country. When it comes to pride, it’s something you should feel when you are an
