Progress Throughout the 2014 fall semester at the University of Evansville, I was enrolled in First Year Seminar with the topic title being: Sex, Love, and Lust. I enjoyed the class very much and I am very glad that I decided to take it. Throughout the course we wrote four papers, including a narrative, a response, a synthesis, and an argument. Each was difficult in its own way, but I managed to work through the issues I was having in the writing process and pull out with what I feel are really good grades. Each paper got more difficult as more texts got introduced, but it only led to a more accomplished feeling as each paper was completed. Throughout the short fall semester in First Year Seminar 111, I felt that I grew as a writer. I feel …show more content…
I always had a good time when I went to my First Year Seminar class. The topic was interesting, and everyone could relate to it in some way or another. It wasn’t just about sex, but also about love. I got to write about my own personal love experience at the very beginning of the semester, and I feel like it was my best paper. It really set the mood for the remainder of the class. While some of the papers were hard to begin, it was always interesting to see what new thoughts and ideas would come into my head while writing a paper. I never thought that I would be arguing about different views of sex, but in this class I did and it was really challenging, yet fun. Everyone has different views and that is okay. It is hard to change a person’s perspective on something, especially at the age of college students, but it is nice to know that I can argue my point and that people can understand where I am coming from, even if they don’t agree with me. For example, in my fourth paper I argued that sex does not define …show more content…
I do believe that I should have been in the 112 section instead of 111, but I did not feel like taking the placement test. However, I am very glad I was in the 111 section, because it was a great experience. Through peer revision workshops, pre-paper planning, and the quality and enjoyment of the class, I feel like my writing has improved. While I know there is still room for improvement, I really feel like I grew as a writer. I really enjoyed my semester in First Year Seminar: Sex, Love, and Lust, and I can’t wait for what next semester First Year Seminar

Being a part of a Human Sexuality course has definitely opened my eyes to many different topics and issues that are occurring around the world. I believe I have lived a very sheltered life after learning about some of these topics, because I hadn’t even heard of most of them. I liked to think I knew all there was to know about human sexuality simply because I understood sexual intercourse, STI`s, and using protection. But human sexuality involves much more than those three things. Three of the major topics that have made me really think about how uneducated I was in regards to human sexuality were sexual birth defects, gender identity and gender roles, and sexual assault.…

No, there was no “life changing” moment for me from this course and I honestly I can’t say I am a better or worse citizen for taking this class, but I can say my writing skills have improved, and that I feel more confident in my writing than prior to taking this course. Writing has and continues to be a challenge for me, I have no illusion that I will ever be a “perfect” or even a “good” writer for that matter, but because some of things I learned in how to prepare and to write an essay I feel I’m a much improved writer. Specifically the topics covered from the first module of this course help my development.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
