People strive their whole childhood trying to live up to the standards of their parents. We simply want to make them proud and have fun. All that the adults want to see is for their children, and future of our nation, to be successful and happy. The problem with this fairy tale is that with our nation’s current standards for academics being so low, we really aren’t accomplishing much. Sure there are the occasional elite groups of students who do learn a lot and become successful and wealthy, but there is a huge majority who can get great grades in school and become unemployed or work minimum wage jobs their whole life. They barely even understand the concepts they learn in high school, and can’t even manage to function and participate on the higher level required to be successful in college. And because of the lazy and bare minimal effort applied throughout school, they will more than likely perform on a similar level when “working” at their jobs in the future. Therefore our workers will become less capable to perform on the levels of their precedents and we will not advance as a nation. (Learning Standards Definition) One man in particular has severe feelings and concepts against our current educational standards, and even has ideas on how to fix it. He says that “American children are growing up and not immersing themselves or even applying basic effort in order to do well. They do not see a reward at the end of it all, and therefore have no drive to go for it. And even if they do see some reward, they only perform based on tests that really don’t accurately portray how successful they have been through schooling. They are misconceived into believing they are learning and doing well in school, however in actuality they learn very little and will more than likely fail as an individual in todays advanced society.” (Best and
