Reflective Essay: If I Go To College

The Moment As I was sitting in my fourth block English class on the last day of my senior year, my teacher decides to ask each of my fellow classmates and I what our plans are after high school. One of my fellow classmates Sarah, wanted to go to fashion school and peruse her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. My other classmate, Josh, wanted to go straight into the work field. So, he skipped college entirely. I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to go to college and succeed, because I know that success to me, was based on how well I have accomplished my goals in the past twelve years and why not continue to do that by attending college? I was always told you must go to college after high school, to earn value in this world. I considered value to be a representation of my accomplishments that were achieved throughout my education career. My story is not to discourage you, but to help you seek out my view of my feelings when I first decided to make the decision to go to college.

Staring at the unmarked, grey wall, I began to think and analyze why I have come to the conclusion that I must go to college to earn a better life for myself. Why do I assume that if I go to college, I will live a better life? Because, statistically, college graduates seek better job opportunities as opposed to people who do not attend college. The choice was, that I was attending college in the fall. Will it be worth it though? I didn’t know. I didn’t know how all of the time and energy spent doing papers, homework, tests, would even benefit me to getting a good career and life that I feared I would not receive by ditching college. Because, I was not ready to go enter a college honestly. I don’t know any person who goes into college assuming it will be
