Improved Essays
Imagine we are standing here, the last day of Eisenhower Middle School, at our 8th grade graduation. As we look up with our hearts pounding of excitement and melancholy we see our fellow classmates one by one heading up to the stands getting their diploma. Time ticks by and I finally hear Dr.Brethauer say “Tiffany Cheng”, as I got up I feel myself getting more and more nervous by the second as everyone in the audience is staring at me and clapping. While I make my way to the stand to receive my diploma I had the feeling of success and achievement, realizing that everything i’ve done the last 3 years has finally payed off and the reason why i’m standing here today, right now is because I worked extremely hard and stayed determined all throughout my middle school years. Many people leave school with a legacy, which is something you are remembered for. I hope my legacy will be the girl who was kind towards others, caring, and worked hard in school. …show more content…
I hope my family and teachers would be extremely proud of how far i’ve grown since the beginning of the year or even the beginning of 6th grade. I hope that i’m known as someone who is dedicated, hardworking, and friendly. I would want to be recognized by my kindness, humor, and determination. David Wallace Foster’s Kenyon College Commencement Speech is extremely successful for a multitude of reasons. It is not so much inspirational or revolutionary or epic, just simply honest. After coming a long distance from Richmond, Virginia to Washington D.C, my destination was reached. Just by gazing at the deep-rooted bricks and the old cream-colored columns, I knew this was the right place to be. Strolling into the revived Ford’s Theatre and looking at the waxed mannequins it feels like you are travelling back into the 1860’s. I was already amazed by observing all of the various artifacts and depictions and trying to figure out which attraction would interest me the most to record. Since Ford’s Theatre is a very popular site and has many fascinating facts behind it, The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was the most impressive exhibit to me.…

Throughout reading “Commencement Speech, Kenyon College”, I found this short story very inspiring to read as I found myself doing more research on this essay because I was so interested in it. Reading this once through I got the feeling of more of a pessimistic and lower toned feeling sine suicide is mentioned and reading the bio notes of David Foster Wallace and how he suffered with depression and committing suicide I realized this was more of a final speech of what he wished he could have still in himself. “It’s the matter of my choosing to do the work of show how altering or getting free of my natural, hardwired default-settling” (309) I believe in this statement with my whole heart, to me I believe that I used to get just go through the motions of life and wasn’t really living but recently one of my friends came to me and told me she wanted to kill herself because she didn’t see the point in life and though I don’t know if I ever could get to that point, I told her that every day we would hang out, every day we would make the most of everyday and every day I would remind her why life was so wonderful to live and how lucky we are for this opportunity.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

As my high school career is coming to an end it has subsequently made me look back at the past four years in remembrance. Through those years I can see myself being molded into the young man I am today, and I will say I wouldn’t go back and change any of it. Through two moments in my high school career, I found who I was and made me a better man so that I can have a sustainable future. One experience was actually during one of my lowest moments in high school; the time I cheated on a Chemistry test. I've always been stellar at chemistry, but my peers in my class weren’t as much.…

Most importantly, I think of what I learned-in my worst of times, when nothing has gone my way, God has a plan.…
