College is entire new experience, and can be overwhelming at times. As a student in high school I was an active participant in my school community, as well as a student who took advantage all the opportunities presented. I know that I am more then capable of being a part of an organization or club and impacting it positively. In addition, to the roles I played in serval clubs, I was also an excelling student. Balancing my academic work and responsibilities was challenging occasionally, but I succeeded in the end. Here, at Spelman, I am not this same student and it saddens me. I understand my capabilities and limits, so as of now I am trying to get comfortable with the new college lifestyle. As the semesters past, I definitely plan to become …show more content…
This requirement is favorable because it will help prepare me for the quality level required by the Doctorate’s Program I plan to attend after Spelman. In addition, in any field you must be able to carry out basic abilities other than your specific career. For instance, my intended career right now is to become a physical therapist. As a physical therapist background knowledge about the body is needed, as well as the abilities to communicate with patients, and write down observations. As a first year student and first generation the transition from high school to college has been a challenge, therefore, I have not been taking advantage of all the great opportunities around me to become involved in the school’s community. One club I am currently in is 1st GEN. This club is specifically for first generation college students; it is enlightening to see people struggling with the same aspects of college as you are. From this club I have been able to bond with other students in my class, as well as, with upper classman. As I maneuver through college my first year and once I feel comfortable, I plan to become part of many clubs. I enjoy contributing to my school community as a figure who helps to improve their experiences at college. As well as, developing a positive and unifying school spirit. One of the clubs I am hoping to become a part of is PULSE, I love their message and the outcome of all their work. The purpose of me joining several clubs is not only to give, but also to gain connections with alumni, graduating students, and companies or organization we might work with through the club. As part of Spelman’s liberal education it is emphasized that we continue to broaden our worldly perspective outside of the class. We are encouraged to take part in as many study abroad opportunities as we can. Through study abroad opportunities my goal is to

Every morning before I leave for school, my father preaches the same aphorism, “It is better to give than to receive, Jackie.” And every morning, I shrug off these same words. I reflect on the immense joy everything I have received in my brief 17 years has brought me. The stunning images I am gifted by Kubrick, Fincher, and Reitman triumph any present I have received under the tree on Christmas morning. As a first year student living in the residence hall I had a lot of opportunity to get myself involved in different on-campus activities. However, I thought of these events as irrelevant and time wasting as I did understand the value of the involvement that can bring to my personal and academic development. It was hard to have any interaction with faculty as I struggled to find a voice in class size of 300 students; it was seen that only the brave ones asked questions during lecture as everyone turn to look at the person who asked the questions. For the two quarters of the first year at University of California of San Diego was an interesting time where I struggle to find the right place that I want to be part of and become an active member.…
