I currently work with Savannah Chatham County School System as a Paraprofessional. I have been with the organization for about a year. Savannah Chatham County School System is one of the largest employers in Savannah, Georgia and is the 10th largest school district in Georgia. It employs over seven thousand employees this includes teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, administrative assistants, etc. Within the school systems there are twenty-six (26) elementary schools, nine (9) K-8 schools, nine (9) middle schools, and eleven (11) high schools. The school system offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits if students choose to attend a specialty school with in the district. I believe that if smaller class size were implemented it would be beneficial to teachers and the students that he/she are assigned to. By having a well-balanced teacher to student ratio the students will be allowed more one on one time with the teacher in areas that are difficult to the students, which are usually science and math. In the class teachers are required to have a schedule that they must abide by in order to be able teach all subject areas in one school day. By having a smaller size class the teacher can identify what areas are difficult for students and could possibly spend more time teaching it because with the smaller class this will allow the teacher to answer more questions that students may have and to review the subject further using more examples of the lessons that are being taught. In order for the class sizes to be smaller schools must be willing to hire the additional teachers needed in order for the classes to be balanced. If this practice was implemented the teachers will not be as stressed and the students will not be lack the time and attention that is needed for weak subject …show more content…
Funding is usually limited in low income neighborhoods and communities within school districts. Class size is an issue nationwide especially in public school because they are not able to turn students down. A national average class size in the United States was 21.2 for elementary, and 26.8 for secondary schools. The sizes of classes varied from state to state (Berek, 2016). One way I believe that this obstacle can be solved is to hire additional teachers as needed when the number of registered students increases. The hiring of additional teachers should be the principals’ decision because he/she knows first-hand how many teachers the school needs in order for it to run productively. The principal should not have to wait on permission by the Board of Education to determine if it is okay to hire additional staff if needed. If the hiring of more teachers are implemented as the registration of new students continue to go up then schools will not be stuck with more students than they need in their classrooms. I believe this will improve the teachers strategy on how they will tackle introducing different lessons to the students, this will also ensure the safety of the students because if there are too many students assigned to the class this can possibly cause the class to have behavior issues that will in turn take away from the students’ who want to get a quality education. This definitely doesn’t help the students with progressing in their studies. This is because they get a new teacher about every week or so which means different style lesson plans, discipline and etc. which can really confuse the students and do more damage than good for them. Also, during Kozol’s interview with a student named Mireya he heard many stories about how teachers have neglected disciplinary action. According to Mireya a student called her ghetto and several other things and the teacher did nothing about it.…

Public Education across the United States has been under attack for several years. Parents want school districts, administrators and teachers to be accountable for their children’s education; however, they do not want to finance their schools. School districts are forced to work with the income they have. This income varies from district to district and state to state. Affluent districts across the United States have larger budgets than poor districts causing great inequalities in students’ education.…

After reviewing Shelby County Board of Education gift policy, I believe Brad would not be in compliance with the standards adopted. The policy states, “educational personnel are forbidden from accepting gifts or money that could possibly influence a student’s decision on any matter” (Shelby County Board of Education, 2010, pg. 3). Brad’s involvement with Tom could have a direct impact on how he performs in class, both behaviorally and academically. He may also choose to take more science courses or pursue a career directed at these disciplines after graduation. This is not to imply negative connotations around helping others, but to ensure that the behavior is grounded in ethical behavior.…

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is a district in central North Carolina that serves approximately 50,000 students in 81 schools. A year ago, several leadership changes occurred that have had large impacts on the educational community in the wake. Chief among the changes was the appointment of Dr. Beverly Emory as the new Superintendent and, in terms of technology, Kevin Sherrill as Executive Director of Technology. Prior to the transitions, there was little cohesion in terms a singular aspiration for the district and each individual school focused on the immeasurable goal of “21st century students.” In July 2014, Dr. Emory revealed three measurable learning targets that all Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School employees could work towards:…

In today’s educational setting there are various major issues that constantly need to be addressed and dealt with. Often times these issues are so vast and so severe that the idea of even where to begin is almost unfathomable. These issues range from academic concerns, to financial concerns, and continue with personnel and staffing issues. Many school systems face such dire problems, that it is almost impossible to resurrect their institutions to get them on the right path to success. By possessing the ability to recognize the most pertinent issues facing a school system, administrators can develop a plan of action and then implement that plan to hopefully create positive change that can have a lasting positive impact on the school.…

The reader is encouraged to consider both the growing concern regarding current trends of larger classroom sizes, in addition to contemplating the possible misrepresentation or distortion of data. Interestingly, the authors investigate the resulting influence on teacher professionalism and academic outcomes, especially for classrooms with a large number of diverse learners who require additional support. For example, Pam Kent, SA Primary Principals Association president, highlights teaching quality as a greater influencing factor on academic achievement, inferring class size has restricted impact in comparison. However, generalised statements referring to ‘the research’, without citing specific evidence or literature, diminishes the strength of her argument. Conversely, implementation of data from various surveys reveals the high nature of class sizes within South Australia.…

With the courses spread out and diversified, the average class size would lessen due to more options for the class. For composition teachers specifically, the smaller class size would mean more time to grade papers and fewer papers to actually grade. Teachers with smaller class sizes would also be able to have the time to know their students. This could benefit both the teachers and the students. The teachers would be able to understand how to teach each student and understand the way that they take in information and learn.…

Rusty, dark, and tight is what can describe Woodbridge Middle School, a school that is one hundred six years old and is evident by how the school is taken care of, or lack of. Students spend a significant amount of time at school and should feel excited and comfortable to be there. The problem with having schools that are not receiving proper care while there are schools that are well off is that they receive more assistance which results in an unequal balance of resources being distributed. Yet these schools that get the short end of the stick learn to work with what they have, but if one thinks of that mentality that might not get the school working full speed ahead. In Woodbridge Middle School, when one enters one sees that a lot of classes…

Benefits of Private School I have been attending private school for almost eleven years, and I believe that my experience at Forcey Christian School has been an important part of my life that has helped to shape the person I am today. My class sizes have always been fairly small, allowing me to develop personal relationships with both my teachers and my peers. Over the years, my teachers have always made sure that each student receives their full attention at all times. Because we have such small class sizes, teachers are able to see when one of their students are falling behind or are struggling with the material that is being taught in class, and they are also able to identify a student that is in need of a greater challenge or needs to…

Some states, are using funds from the Class Size Reduction Program to turn low academic performing schools around by reducing classes. The idea that reducing class sizes can lead to enhanced teaching and learning is one most people would freely support. If one were given a choice between a small classes of 20 students versus 30 students, would there be a dispute that the larger class of 30 students would be a more enhanced in the learning environment for knowledge. In a smaller classroom, a teacher would have time to get to know their student's better and learn their strengths and weaknesses. Also, in a small classroom environment it may take less time to manage the classroom, which means the teacher could spend more time teaching and helping students with…
