Hello Freshies!
I know high school can be a somewhat scary place when you first walk inside of those doors. But however, don’t worry it’s not that bad of a place at all! Plainville High School is a time to have the best time of your life. As a freshman just be aware that people are older than you, so don’t act like you know everything. My biggest advice I can give to you is listen to what upperclassman have to say and if you don’t agree with it, hold your tongue and ignore them. Upperclassman hate nothing more than when a freshman does not know their place. But moving on, always respect the teachers. Teachers are there for you even though you might think I am absolutely crazy for saying this, but they really are. Teachers don't always have

David Wallace Foster’s Kenyon College Commencement Speech is extremely successful for a multitude of reasons. It is not so much inspirational or revolutionary or epic, just simply honest. His speech is blunt about what people will face in their life after education. That adult life is boring, repetitive, trivial, tiring. Yet despite being adult life being unsatisfactory, Wallace always says it will only be those things because of your perspective.…

He spoke with ethos, pathos and logos- appealing to a variety of cultures.…

Throughout reading “Commencement Speech, Kenyon College”, I found this short story very inspiring to read as I found myself doing more research on this essay because I was so interested in it. Reading this once through I got the feeling of more of a pessimistic and lower toned feeling sine suicide is mentioned and reading the bio notes of David Foster Wallace and how he suffered with depression and committing suicide I realized this was more of a final speech of what he wished he could have still in himself. “It’s the matter of my choosing to do the work of show how altering or getting free of my natural, hardwired default-settling” (309) I believe in this statement with my whole heart, to me I believe that I used to get just go through the motions of life and wasn’t really living but recently one of my friends came to me and told me she wanted to kill herself because she didn’t see the point in life and though I don’t know if I ever could get to that point, I told her that every day we would hang out, every day we would make the most of everyday and every day I would remind her why life was so wonderful to live and how lucky we are for this opportunity.…

As I walked into the school of DollyHigh, everyone congratulated me on becoming Valedictorian on the campus. I moved in Dolly about four years ago after my mom and dad got a divorce. Although the divorce done me and my mom bad we both knew we needed to start our own new lives. I remember walking into Dolly high for my freshman year and remembering what it feels like to be known as “The New Kid” or “Fresh Meat”. Look at me now, the Cheer captain of the squad, Valedictorian, and joining in on many clubs to make my collage record look professional.…

Starting high school is tough. It’s a big transition from having it doesn’t matter if you fail a class in middle school to it’s the end of the world if you don’t get enough credits to graduate. When you start as a freshman, the years go by fast let me tell you. With meeting all the people, to cool classes with new friends, to lunch. The days go by fast other than the fact you feel the classes that you hate go by slow.…

If I could give advice to the incoming freshman class, I would tell them that high school will change you. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in a way that will challenge your inner self. High school starts off weird because it is a blend of two middle schools and you probably won’t know everyone. Take me for example; most of my current best friends all went to a different middle school than me. At the start of high school you will probably start out with anywhere from five to ten best friends.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
