SCTC Reflection Essay

Before coming to SCTC I had no idea of what I wanted to do after graduating high school. In fact, I was not sure I wanted to attend SCTC at all. I had heard about the programs that were offered and was sort of interested in the Digital Graphic Arts course, but I had not had much experience with art on the computer. I was very good at drawing and painting, so my art teacher suggested that I apply for the program. He made it clear that I could learn many things at SCTC that he would not be able to teach me in Madison. I applied, interviewed, and was accepted, still not sure if I wanted to be in the program. In the fall I started the Digital Graphics program. We began with photography, which was fine, but I decided it was not my thing. After …show more content…
In business league, other students and myself fill out forms that ask questions about basic math required to run a business as well as questions about grammar and spelling. These forms are judged and scored in a competition between participating schools. I am also on prom committee, in which I designed the logo for Madison prom 2016. I will be able to use this logo for the posters and tickets for the prom. Lastly, I am a senior mentor. As a senior mentor, I help an assigned group of freshmen adjust to high school. Two other students and I go into our designated ninth grade homeroom and play games or do different activities to make these students feel more comfortable in their new …show more content…
Not only have I learned how to better use computers, but I have also learned how to act around customers and be professional. I have also learned what hard work can accomplish. My art teacher was correct in saying that I would learn many more skills at SCTC than I would ever learn from taking many art classes at Madison. Without SCTC, I would probably still not know what to do after high school. Because of SCTC, I have had real word experience which has helped me prepare for my future

Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying.…

INTRODUCTION Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been and are critical drivers of social mobility and social change in the Black community. Since their founding they have had missions to provide access and opportunity for Black people when they were excluded or denied admittance elsewhere. Today, HBCUs continue close the societal and economic gaps that exist for Black people in America. HBCUs represent just three percent of institutions of higher education, enroll less than ten percent of African Americans in higher education, but graduate more than 17 percent of African American bachelor degrees and more than 24 percent of African American bachelor degrees in STEM fields (NCES, 2016).…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…

First response- This student most definitely understands the values of each character, and is able to draw conclusions about what each character thinks about another from the text. It is also very impressing that the student is able to give reason as to why Duchess Berwick feels the way she feels about marriage, that reason being that she is married. Not only does the student make reference to the characters values, but completely answers the question by addressing the society that the characters live in. Through this, the student is able to mention the affects the society has on the characters.…

Like most people, the third grade was a highly intense time. This was the period in which you had to decipher between wanting to learn how to multiply or learn how to divide first. Or for me the most difficult decision may have been choosing between kickball and tetherball during recess. But I had an issue of seeing adults doing things and if it was simple I would do them too. For me as a child I had what many considered an old sold.…

English has always been one of my best subjects. Most of my english teachers were pretty impressed with my writing skills and with my advanced vocabulary for my age. My 9th grade english teacher even thought that I should get into writing, whether as a blogger or as an journalist.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

As I began this class in January my definition of curriculum was based on the academic coursework teachers use to instruct the information. Now my definition of curriculum is anything that falls under the auspice of the school that includes coursework, classroom arrangement, instruction, assessment, student engagement, and community involvement. My perspective is curriculum is what students learn in and out of the school. We need to teach students to become learners and problem solvers for the 21st century. I currently work at The Academy at Penncrest High School through the Simon Youth Foundation.…
