First and foremost I would like to apologize to the University for my inadequate performance as a student. These past semesters were a poor reflection of my character and my academic potential. Throughout the Fall semester there were many factors that led to my poor grades. As I reflected back over these past few months, I noticed I did not have a smooth transition into college life. This new environment allowed for more freedom to come-and-go as I pleased. But, with all of this new freedom came new responsibilities that I had not properly prepared myself for. One of the responsibilities that I struggled with was time management. I struggled with allotting the proper amount of time for all aspects of my life, let alone my studies. On October 15th, I had to face the loss of one of my best friends. Thomas Miloscia, less than a week before his 19th birthday, had lost his extended battle to cancer. His death was unexpected due to the fact that he was recovering from chemotherapy and was rid of the cancer in his bones. One evening Tom was terribly sick and was taken to the hospital. The doctors were clueless as to what was causing his severe symptoms until he underwent a CAT-Scan. The results revealed stage-four brain cancer. Sadly, by the time doctors discovered the cancer it was too late, and Thomas passed away the next morning. This affected my attendance and consumed my thoughts for the following weeks. Since I was disconnected from my family and friends, I felt alone and thought my friends at High Point University could not relate to this loss and my grief. I could not sleep at night, and found it nearly impossible to get out of bed in the morning. This tragedy has not been easy for me to cope with. Not only did this negatively impact my grades, but my life a whole. Tom was a role model for all as noted in the GoFundMe biography that was used to raise over sixty-five thousand dollars for his treatments (https://www.gofundme.com/milosciacancerfund). I will always cherish the time I spent with Tom. Attached is an image of myself, next to Tom with a group of friends (Myself being the furthest to the …show more content…
