One of my most memorable experiences I’ve had as a teacher, was when I student taught as a preschool teacher in Burlington Vermont with inner city children. These children mostly came from low income families and also single family homes. The children in the class were all 3 or 4 years old. One of my first days in the class I saw two children fighting in the class, I walked over to the children to try to figure out what was going on, one of the children looked at me and started using vulgar language towards me. I knew right then and there, this class was not going to be an easy group. After working with this challenging group I learned that listening is key to being a successful teacher.
