Graduation Speech: My Hero's Journey

Decent Essays
This past year you've grown up so much, so much so that sometimes I wonder if you're actually about to turn 5 not 3. You became a big sister this year and started pre-school - both of which you love, although I'm not so sure you will when you actually do turn 5.

You love Paw Patrol, Toy Story & Scooby Doo. You love being a superhero, a police officer and a princess too. You also love to sing on the top of your voice to "Let it go" and more recently, Christmas songs, which I fear you'll still be singing come July.

You are clever, funny, independent, and caring but let's not forget that you can be a diva too and you're as they say most definitely a "Threenager".

Although I am sad that we are saying goodbye to your Toddler years I am excited

Sitting at my desk, I stared down at my schoolwork while my mind remained static. Suddenly, I found myself beginning to radiate golden light as my body faded from existence; then before I knew it, I rematerialized out of thin air. This does not happen often, so I was rather confused as I stood atop a cloud, high up in the sky. That is, until I noticed a large, human-like figure appear before me in a holy light. He raised his hands and smiled down at me before bellowing out, “Behold, for it is I; Gabe Newell!”…

Today had been long. It was one of those days that Cassie wanted to end with a bear hug from her dad. Her dad was always the person to brighten her day. The traditional hero’s journey begins with a calling, the hero is drawn to certain circumstances in which they must decide whether or not to accept the quest. However, the feminine journey differs, instead the protagonist determines there is something about their life that must change, and only they themselves, through their own free will, can resolve it. Characters such as Alba, Fa Mulan/ Kingston, and Rahel take the challenge to tackle their deepest psychological issues while simultaneously confronting the patriarchy and political corruption. These female authors successfully preserve the female voice and challenge patriarchal culture through their use of mystical realism (Jenkins). Beginning with The God of Small Things, the vulnerable…
