We all know what it is like to go to school for 8 hours Monday through Friday and then come home to homework each per night. I remember in elementary school how I couldn 't wait to get home from a long day of school and being able to do whatever I wanted to do. Whether it be play outside, play with friends, watch my favorite tv show, extracurricular activities or whatever it may that interested me. But those visions are always ruined when you get home and your parent reminds you it is time to do homework.
In fact, I have a little sister, Macy, who is now in the 2nd grade and everyday she comes home everyday with homework. If it were up to her she would be doing a variety of different things, homework not being one of them. That is true for most kids. After being at school all day long, the most frustrating thing for a young child is coming home to do even more work. Macy started bringing homework as early as kindergarten. A study published in the American Journal of Family Therapy showed that kindergarteners received 25 minutes of homework per night, on average. But according to the standards set by the National Education Association and NPTA, they shouldn’t receive any at all (Levy). Not only are elementary children getting homework every night, but they are getting more then enough of it at an even earlier age taking them away from other important things in life.
