Not only would it be troubling to talk about a murder during a time where school related violence is fresh in everyone’s mind, but we risk triggering bad memories or experiences in the students as well. Alex and I went back to brainstorming. I knew I wanted to keep the Sherlock/Watson dynamic in our project as well as have fun science experiences to amuse the class, but I was not sure how to go about that. Thinking more about it we decided to do a cold case crime mystery. At this time Heidi Mendez came in for a visit so we got more information about what we needed to incorporate into our project. Alex and I now had to focus our idea into something that would fit the classes learning goals. After speaking more about it our focus shifted away from science to teaching reasoning. I really want to show them that college is really fun and accessible to them as long as they keep it in mind as they progress through school. Unfortunately, we have not be able to connect to the students that much this semester. I have written a handful of letter to the students but have only ever received two from that first exchange. I really want to show them that college is affordable and not as scary as everyone makes it out to be. In our project Alex and I have purposefully dropped hints about financial aid as well as centers for people with art skills or other interests. Not really knowing their interests makes it hard to try and incorporate what they know and like into our presentation, so I worry that we not make as big of an influence as we could it we knew them better. I used to be a part of a youth group that had members who were already in college and it was getting to know them and hear about all the cool projects and activities that got me to try hard in school so that I could be like them one day. Being here now I feel like I should utilize this opportunity to try and plant that seed in these
