When I initially began Boy Scouts, I largely depended on my brother and his friends for help and assistance. Eventually, my brother and his friends around his age graduated, and while many moved on to serve as adult leaders, all of them eventually left for college. With this large amount of support missing from my usual routine, I felt lost for a significant amount of time, before I participated in a Philmont trek in the summer before my freshman year of high school. During the Philmont trek, as the youngest member of the crew, I felt highly unprepared due to my overall lack of experience with high adventure and large amounts of leadership; however, despite developing a blister on the first day, I found solace with my crew as they taught me valuable skills that would help me survive the journey. From their exemplary leadership and teachings, I quickly learned not only how to help myself, but also how to assist and guide others as a leader.…

Obtaining the Eagle rank is a long and difficult process, building within the scout strong traits of leadership, teamwork, and individual growth mindset, because progression is up to the scout. If it’s something they really want, then they will go after it and do what needs to be done. which are all essential elements in life. Often recommended by adult leaders, described to be mature for my age and very responsible, I assumed leadership positions early on. From Den Chief, Quartermaster, Chaplain’s Aide, to Senior Patrol Leader, in charge of leading the entire troop of over 100 boys, I had the opportunity to influence younger scout to progress through the ranks and focus on the vision of becoming an Eagle Scout. As they achieved more for themselves, they, in turn, promulgate the Eagle Scout vision and helped others rise in the troop. The additional time I dedicated on numerous community service projects motivated younger scouts to also go beyond the call of…
