Graduation Speech: Jeff Strobl

There have been many teachers that have taught me alot, but one very noteworthy friend takes the top spot. I would like to honor Jeff Strobl as the light in the darkness from my deranged junior year of high school. He was not only a teacher, but a mentor that I could talk to about anything. He looks up to me similarly to that of a family member: like a son he never had. Even from the first day we met, he knew I had potential to do extraordinary things in life.

Walking to his class the first day of the second semester of my strenuous junior year--filled with many grueling AP classes--lifted the weight off my shoulders with the ease of his amusing jokes. His class let me slow down just a bit to catch up on life. Within the first week of me

Well, Dodger fans, over a week ago we received the worst possible news in the history of all horrible news. Ok, maybe that’s a bit of hyperbole, but it sure feels legit. Clayton Kershaw heading to the 15-Day DL for a mildly herniated disc in his lower back. I know, I know… group hug. He was joined a day or so later by Joc Pederson, who made a spectacular, albeit shoulder crushing catch into the wall, which in turn sent him to the 15-Day DL with a sprained right AC joint.…

Way back in the 6th grade, I didn't have many friends. We all have those awkward years in our lives, and this was most definitely the beginning of mine. While sitting reading a book in the hallway of the Alton, Middle School before school a girl came by. This girl stopped, looked at what I was reading, and said, "Hey I just finished reading that book it's really good!" This small gesture, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that I will cherish for the rest of my life.…

He showed me a math test he just got back and he got a B, I was very happy for him, since before he had been failing the class. He began thanking me for all the help I gave him, and specifically for just sitting down with him and answering his questions, because it helped him understand. This was definitely a "feel-good" moment. I really believe that student made more of an impact on me than I made on him, and I know I will carry the value of community service with me to college. I will continue throughout college and beyond to help all the people I can and advocate for those without a voice.…

I start off almost every lunch the same way. I anxiously await for block 3B to come so I can leave class, and go down to the lunchroom. Once the clock strikes 12:05, my friends and I throw our books in our schoolbags, grab our lunch bags, and run down to the cafeteria. The three floors down never feel longer than when I am running to lunch. As we run down the stairs, I am most curious about what soup Brock will serve today.…

As I walked into the school of DollyHigh, everyone congratulated me on becoming Valedictorian on the campus. I moved in Dolly about four years ago after my mom and dad got a divorce. Although the divorce done me and my mom bad we both knew we needed to start our own new lives. I remember walking into Dolly high for my freshman year and remembering what it feels like to be known as “The New Kid” or “Fresh Meat”. Look at me now, the Cheer captain of the squad, Valedictorian, and joining in on many clubs to make my collage record look professional.…

I am very grateful for those who have influenced me over my high school years whether it be my teachers, advisors, parents, or friends. Although all have had a great impact on my life at some point, I have to say the person who had the biggest significance on my life was easily my 8th grade teacher, National Honor Society Advisor, and mentor: Mrs. Mindi Phelps. Having first met her as my 8th grade English teacher, I did not know how much this woman would mean to me now, as a senior in high school. She believed in me and pushed me out of my comfort zone, was there for all my successes, as well as my failures, and still is to this day even though she moved to Florida at the end of my junior year. I first met Mrs. Phelps at the beginning of my 8th grade year as my English teacher.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…

I find it funny that 12 years ago I would be inside my room with a bunch of papers, a ruler, and my grandma 's glasses on playing teacher with my friends. In that moment I would have never thought that being a teacher would be really what I would want to be when I grew up. I always found myself interested in teaching, I just never knew what grade or if I was really sure if that is what I wanted to do. I guess what helped me clear that up was the beginning of my senior year.…
