I consider him my mentor because this counselor has helped me develop confidence in myself and continues to push me to go on and obtain my masters degree. When I came to this man I was completely lost and did not know what I wanted to major in or what my purpose in college was, being the first to attend college in my family I was a total stranger to college. However, after several meetings with Mr.Ukita we developed a bond that even after I transferred to Cal State University, Los Angeles I still keep in contact with him. He has guided me throughout my college journey, any questions I had or have he is the person to answer them, I cannot thank him enough for what he has done. Besides, mentoring me in my college journey he has also thought me so much about of life in general, little things that help you as you move on in life and seek employment in the real world as Mr. Ukita would say.I can personally say that growing up my parents were not very open about anything that involved sensitive topics such as sex, or even allowing me to express my emotions, it was considered a sign of weakness. With experience comes wisdom and you eventually start to see things from a different lens as oppose to before. life puts you in situations that are out of your control, therefore, I feel that I would not change in the way I asked for help. I happened to cross paths with Mr. Ukita and I was not in control of selecting whom I wanted to make a counseling appointment with. I constantly reflect back upon this experience and realize that things do happen for a reason. As a result, I am in the process of graduating from CSULA with a BSW degree, much of the credit goes to my first counselor Mr.Ukita without his guidance I would not be in this tremendous
