Renting is a more affordable option to buying but some colleges require a college specific edition of a textbook, which makes renting them not a viable option. Buying a used textbook is a great option but one that comes with risks. Sometimes the edition isn 't the one that is needed or it is an edition that school used last semester but isn 't using for the coming semester. It would provide students with the relief of knowing that when they start college, being able to afford textbooks won 't be a problem. That extra $1,200 a year could go to their cost of living fund or even help to pay for the courses they are taking. It could mean one less part time job for a student or even a new laptop that could aid the student through the school year.
