What I Learned When Attending College

After I completed high school it was never in my plans to attend college because I always felt like I hated school and it simply just wasn’t for me or wasn’t something that I had planned on doing ever. After graduation, I played around, partied, and didn’t take life seriously. A year passed by and I thought to myself what are you really going to do to show your future children that success comes as long as you put in hard work for it. Fall 2016 I got into to college and it was the best wake up call ever. It made me realize that time never waits on you. This semester at HCC has taught me how to be consistent with one thing at time and patience. I have never in my life been able to do one thing completely and finish it, ever. I told myself if school isn’t for you throughout this whole process you can always learn two things. Patience teaches how to be calm and not so in hurry and learn that everything takes time and it’s never your time, it’s God’s timing! Consistency teaches you how to accomplish and achieve goals at a consistent rate. Going through this semester made me realize that procrastinating and studying are my weakest points. Next semester I plan to be more organized, more self efficient by devoting 15 minutes a day on each subject weather its reading over notes, studying for a quiz that may …show more content…
The reason why I’ve always wanted to give back to Houston is because once before in my life I was super poor watching my mom struggle for money so we can eat and survive. During my career I plan to give back in numerous ways. After I graduate college I’m going to start a non-profit cancer youth organization for 100 kids. In the organization we will hold fundraisers to raise money towards there doctor bills, they will be able to come to my office at no cost any time during business hours, we will go on family outings once a month, and I will visit everyone about every two weeks to grow and build a rapport with

Transitioning occurs in all stages of life whether it’s from a baby crawling to walking, or an elder moving from their home to a retirement facility. One transition in life that most of us face is the evolution from high school to a college or a university. With moving into a new phase of my life I was optimistic about the difficulties of becoming comfortable with the population, the diversity, and the college life in general that Wayne State provides. I made the leap to a big city called Detroit from a small city called my home. I live in a small urban city, downriver, called Wyandotte.…

I never wanted to go to college. I never thought college was for me, and I knew I would never be able to afford it. My mother is the only one in our family that had graduated from college with an associate’s degree. My older siblings and my father never went to college, so it never peaked my interest. I never desired to be anything more than a high school graduate that floats from job to job, I never desired having a stable career.…

An obstacle I hit was myself. I’m always procrastinating about my assignments which is resulting in me to be working on them late at night or not doing them at all. I will eventually overcome this issue before the end of the quarter by learning to use my time more wisely. College is what I expected it feels like high school to me but way better because I don’t have to wake up early in the mornings and the parking lot is never full unlike at Camas High School. Two habits I developed are discipline and determination and I believe these two habits will help me succeed with my time…

David & Goliath is one of my favorite stories as it portrays a metaphor that we can all relate to. In life, we all have to stand up to something bigger than us and overcome something that may seem impossible to overcome. I believe even more so that every single college student out there can use this metaphor in comparison to college. College is a huge obstacle in life & with the professional field getting increasingly competitive, college degrees have become the standard in today’s society. No longer is it possible to be wildly successful without some fraction of a higher education, it just isn’t possible these days.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…

Future. That’s probably one of the scariest words I know. The future is unpredictable, it’s often wrapped in wrapping paper, ready to be opened and it can both be exciting and disappointing. While I was in Elementary, I dreamed of being a chef, a cop, a fashion designer, a softball player, a singer, and an actor. As soon as I was in middle school, I wanted to be one thing, a singer, I had decided that I liked singing enough for it to be a career, although my vocal range disagreed.…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
