In today’s society education is everything. What we learn in High School is growing in importance as a proper foundation for our College education, and ultimately our real world application. If you talk to any High School student you will hear a common complaint about their teacher’s. About how there’s that one teacher who they cannot understand or learn from to save their grades. Unfortunately, faculty members will never know that this is a problem because a majority of student’s will accept that they just need to suffer through it. There is a better way. How effective is a bad teacher? They lay a weak foundation and lead to permanent confusion for future concepts the rest of the year and onward into other classes. I am a personal example of this. Freshman year of High School I took Spanish I. Throughout the year the teacher would give us a brief description of a concept and then hand us worksheets and projects to complete. I guessed my way through her class. When I asked her for help the explanations were poor at best and only made me more confused. My Sophomore year I moved onto Spanish II. Because of my lack of understanding of Spanish I i struggled through my second year of spanish, often times turning to technological help to aid me through my class and teach myself things I should have already known. Adult’s see teens as rebellious and manipulative. Most might wonder if students will take the power to report their teachers performance, and use it incorrectly and make false accusations. Administration likes to look at students like elementary schoolers. They feel that they need to be told what to do all of the time and that they can’t be responsible enough to identify a problem. This is untrue. Take into consideration that High School students are old enough to drive and even vote. Some are legal adults.
In the real world you do not get to choose the people you work with, or work for. Some might think that by teaching students that they have to find different ways of coping with their teachers is a valuable life skill. There is a difference between school and work. While workers have to ability to quit and leave their situation, students are stuck with a teacher for an entire year.
Education is important. Every year schools do their best to become more innovative and take the learning experience to the next level. Our downfall rarely comes from a lack of student effort, but rather a lack of student understand. If we improve our teachers, we will improve grades.
