Teacher Classification Essay

I was raised in a household in which intelligence and education were greatly valued. I was homeschooled until 6th grade and my mother, who served as my teacher, was never lenient on my brother or me. She worked us harder than a normal teacher likely would have. My mother often stressed how important knowledge was. Since I can remember, I have loved learning new things. Once I learned to read, I read everything in sight, with a dictionary at my side to look up words I did not yet know. Unlike many of my friends, I generally looked forward to school once I was enrolled in the public education system. Even once I entered college, I spent my first four years taking all types of different classes for the sake of learning. My point in all of this is that I have always felt comfortable in a learning environment. Thinking of my favorite and least favorite teachers in school, as well as the type of teacher my mother was, I can begin to formulate my idea of what a good teacher is, the type of …show more content…

Students need to be comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas without fear of being ridiculed by their teacher or peers. If a student is being bullied, or harassed by another student, especially one in the classroom, the last thing on their mind will be the lesson. In addition, students will likely gain higher self-esteem and confidence, increasing their self-efficacy, if they feel respected. This piece of work shows that although these students may possess many great features such as being intelligent, respectful and hardworking, all the effects are not so positive. Students should be respectful but not be afraid to challenge their authoritative figures, they should not be forced to learn a variety of things against their will nor be walked through life instead of being independent, and if they do have to learn certain subjects then they should also be taught how to build character. We live in an age where everyone is okay with being ordered around just to get that good grade or promotion. Society is so used to being told what to do that at times they may not even realize that most decisions they make are not their own. Also though students may be getting more intelligent, knowledge and following rules does not make someone a great person, character does.…

The world is constantly changing around us, so why shouldn’t we change with it? This is the mentality of progressives; progressives are people who believe that nature is constantly changing and if that’s happening what’s to keep knowledge from doing the same? Knowledge is what helps people get through life and what allows people to be successful at whatever they strive for, after all the more people know the more successful they are. Progressives view the mind as something that is there to help guide them trough difficulties, so that people know what decisions to take when the situation arises. While reading about the four philosophies’ I couldn’t help but relate so much to progressives and in this essay I will explain why I believe that about…

I got married, had two children and decided I was going back to college determined to be successful. Some people will argue that a teacher should simply be a person who transfers important information and facts to their students, while others say that a teacher should promote creativity and happiness in their classroom. Studies have shown that students believe that their teachers need to relax, destress, and have a sense of humor in order to maintain a productive classroom. They say that having a boring teacher who teaches boring lessons, makes them feel uncomfortable in school. So, by creating an atmosphere of positivity and freedom to make mistakes, students become more likely to succeed in their studies. However, the concept of a teacher not only acting in an authoritative position, but a friendly one as well, can be controversial in some…

A teacher who listens to others and treats other’s things and feelings with care should be key (Patten et al, 2000). Taking into account the student’s perspective, culture, developmental ability, and learning style is a good way to develop trust and understanding within the classroom (Boulton-Lewis, Brownlee, Walker, Cobb-Moore, & Johanssen, 2011). Students feel valued when they are a part of a safe and positive environment and feeds their own positive beliefs and feelings about themselves (Meece & Soderman,…

Educators play an essential part in student’s lives on a daily basis; for that reason, it is imperative that teachers are mindful as to how one behaves in the presence of students. Teachers have to hold themselves to high standards in order to ensure one is professional and representing oneself and the school with high regards. One’s attitude plays a major part in the environment of a school because one has to be patient and understanding with students in order to get favorable results. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed learning which is why for me it has never been a task to go to school. I recall that beginning on my first day of Kindergarten I made my mom drive me to school early because I wanted to be the first one in class. I was that kid - the one that was always on time, always answered questions ( maybe even more than I should have), and who could be considered a “nerd/geek.” But I never took offense to those names because I knew they stood for what I represented and quite frankly I was never shy about the enjoyment I took in learning. However, somewhere along my educational career in middle school, I began to lose the joy I took in learning or rather the methods through which I was made to learn.…

Observation: As part of my research paper for three days I observed an inclusive classroom for two hours each day. During this time I was able to see how the general education teacher handles real life teaching situations in a classroom that has students with different abilities and six whom have IEP’s for numerous reasons such as emotional disorders. During my observation I took notes on both the students behavior and the strategies implemented by the teacher. The observation helped me to further evaluate the importance of inclusive classrooms and the influence an educator has on these students.…

Respecting one another will be an expectation in my classroom and there will be no tolerance for being disrespectful. I view students as equals because they are at school to gain an education and just like I expect them to listen and respect me I will do the same for them. They will learn better and listen if I demonstrate that I care for their best interest in learning. I do not believe that establishing a democratic classroom and giving students responsibility is letting them take over the classroom because students will have their own opinion, they are all unique individuals who not only learn differently but have a different way of thinking and allowing them to have a say in their own learning is not letting them control the classroom. It is the teacher’s responsibility to set rules and expectations in the classroom and control students who are repeating bad…
