A smile graces my face whenever I hear the word success. Since a very young age, I have always dreamed of becoming a Pediatrician. Kids always make me laugh because of their cute, chubby faces and their tiny, little fingers. I have also always wanted to go into the Medical Field because I love studying about science. This means I will need to earn exceptional grades throughout my school life to be successful in the future. At Fairmont Private Schools, they have an award, called Director's Honor Roll, for students who get straight A's during the trimester. I was eligible for the award in fourth grade and have received this prestigious award every single year. Director's Honor Roll is significant because it challenges me and sets a goal for my education. This award also makes not only myself, but my parents proud as well. The first time I earned Director's Honor Roll was when I was ten years old. There was an assembly where everyone who …show more content…
The director, smiling, watched me as I made my way up the platform. Tense and anxious, I brought up my hands to receive my certificate. I whispered under my breath, "Thank you." As I made eye contact with the principal, she whispered back to me, "Good job, you earned it." I turned around to face the crowd and began to feel relieved. I took a deep breathe and relaxed my tense shoulders. I did it. I got the award. I surveyed the room and spotted my parents in the middle of the swarm of people. I gazed at my parents, for what seemed like a million years. I kept staring at them because I suddenly realized how proud they truly were. Their eyes were filled with joy and it seemed as if they would never stop smiling. It was in that moment that I realized they were the ones who helped me to receive this award. It was them that made the sacrifices to send me to a school that had an award to recognize the top students. They would give up anything in the world for me to be

Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. Anyone who was brave enough to ask got my vehement no when asked if I thought that the college, subsequent medical school, and training would be too much school or that I would get bored. I decided very early that to be a doctor was one of the most exciting things that a person could chose to be and my fantastic pediatrician was the initial spark for this love of medicine. The care that I could see him exhibit in his daily operations as well as the ease at which he interacted with patients and parents alike inspired me. His knowledge was fascinating and I longed to have that level of understanding of the human body.…

That same year, they received an invitation to be inducted into the National Honor Society. I felt juxtaposed with the conflicts that had befallen me. While feeling a continuous happiness for those who had earned recognition, I also felt a sudden temper with myself, knowing I had the capability of joining them. I kept this attitude with me all the way to their induction ceremony. Composing myself, sitting in one of the audience chairs feeling like a failure.…

Having previously been in a school where there was a lot of negativity, I was discouraged to even go to school, but when I started my educational career at Ceiba, I felt I belonged, even from day one. I could not have ever received and honor roll award in my life had I not been at Ceiba.…

My own experience as a five-year-old second-degree burn victim in the Glenwood Springs, Colorado small community hospital’s emergency room never evaporates from my adult decision-making. “You will hurt” was the message my seven-year-old sister relayed to me in our native Spanish language as the staff arduously worked to clean and debride my thigh. No translators were available, and my family circled in shared fear as well as linguistic isolation. Immigrant families who live in camper shells are certainly more at risk for childhood injuries, yet observing the compassionate and diligent efforts of trained medical professionals reacting to my accident sparked my current goal of becoming a Physician Assistant despite the financial and cultural…

As a child, my summers consisted of “cooking food for the soul” and creating skits with my younger brother at Gran-Gran’s, my great-grandmother’s home. Her home is where I learned to cook the best macaroni and cheese, dressing, and banana pudding in the world! I also perfected my own banana nut pancakes. On any given day, while the food was in the oven, my brother and I would sit in her basement, writing a new script or song, and rehearsing it nonstop. When we moved from Michigan to Nevada in 2008, my creative side went into full gear.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
