Personal Experience: Looking Back To My College Career

Superior Essays
Coming into college, I had incredibly high hopes for how I thought things were going to pan out during my college career. Socially, I thought I was going to make this huge group of amazing friends who would never leave my side, and they would be the truest friends that I could ever imagine meeting. While I do see some of my friendships going that way, some of the friends that I met at the beginning of the year turned out to be the kind of friends that I wasn’t interested in keeping. I also thought coming here that I was going to come and immediately find a boy that I had feelings for, and I thought that I was going to fall in love or some gushy thing like that, kind of like you see in the movies, but that definitely hasn’t happened yet, and …show more content…
I always catch myself getting caught up in what could happen in life, or even what could’ve happened in the past. In my StrengthsQuest test I was even giving the theme futuristic, and I would love to be able to focus more on the now. It believe that when we sit and worry about what could’ve been or what could be, we aren’t really enjoying what we have right in front of us. A theme that could help me gain a more “in the now” perspective is self-assurance. People with self-assurance feel confident in their decision making skills, and they know that at the end of the day they have done all that they can do. This would help me because I wouldn’t have to second guess myself on if I’m going to mess up my future, or if I made the right decision regarding my past. Having self-assurance would help me tremendously at living in the moment. Another skill that I would like to improve on is being able to have a focal point when it comes to school. I would love to be able to add focus to my list of Strengths. I have grown up having A.D.D. and I have always struggled with paying attention and staying engaged for long amounts of time. This makes long lecture classes extremely difficult for me, but I do my best. Being a person who has a good focal point is a true blessing, and a lot of people take that for granted. If i were able to focus more, and stay on track while doing assignments and writing papers and listening in …show more content…
I went to many football, volleyball, and a few basketball games already. The reason I went to these sports events was mostly because I was heavily involved in sports back in my home town. I played volleyball, softball, and tennis. I loved to watch my other friends play football, basketball, and track. I definitely grew up in a sports loving family. I remember as a kid spending every weekend watching my brother play baseball, and I absolutely loved it. I am for sure a sport enthusiast. Another event I went to was the talent show for the homecoming court. I went to this because I like watching other people perform talents, probably because I can’t sing or dance or do anything like that. I also wanted to meet other people, and join in on any homecoming activities that the school had going on. My favorite event that I went to was actually when I first got on campus and they had all of these activities planned for us. I went to the hypnotist and that had to be the funniest part of my UNI experience. I’ve seen people being hypnotized a bunch of times so I love seeing that kind of stuff. I liked how inappropriate it was. He made it really fun for people my age. I did also apply for a job on campus, but I never got a call back, but hey at least I still applied for something. I want to work on campus because they have reasonable hours and pay, and I wouldn’t have to drive a far distance or at all to get to
