His speech is blunt about what people will face in their life after education. That adult life is boring, repetitive, trivial, tiring. Yet despite being adult life being unsatisfactory, Wallace always says it will only be those things because of your perspective.…

U.S Senator Cory Booker, in his commencement speech at UPenn, describes his own courageous experiences after graduating from college. Meanwhile, David Wallace, in his “This is Water” speech, talks about the harsh reality and his repetitive life conflicts he went through after graduating college. Cory Booker’s purpose was to convey the idea that after you graduate college and start living on your own, you start to realize how hard it is to survive for those who do not have homes and are forced to live on the streets. On the contrary, David Wallace’s purpose was to convey the idea that it is infuriating to live on your own because you have to deal with everyday people and how they make such absurd mistakes which can affect your mood. Cory Booker…

“We come to love other people and are thereby counter-instructed in our own centrality. We get our butts kicked by real life, and people come to our defense, and help us, and we learn that we’re not separate, and don’t want to be. We see people near and dear to us dropping away, and are gradually convinced that maybe we too will drop away.” George Saunders says this line in his “Advice to Graduates” speech he told at the Syracuse Graduation in 2013. This line really stuck out to me, and so did this speech as a whole.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…

Graduation was a time to celebrate my achievements, to celebrate growing up and maturing into adulthood, to celebrate my friends and family that guided me along the way, and most importantly to celebrate one chapter coming to an end, and another one just beginning. The night before graduation I could hardly sleep as I knew that my high school career would soon be over. I got up that next morning, took a shower, put my makeup on, straightened my hair, and put my favorite black dress on, only this time I had my chords, cap, and gown to go with it.…
