Reflective Essay On Cornerstone Experience

As I was registering for my Fall 2016 classes, Cornerstone Experience was a mandatory orientation course, so I automatically thought it would be a waste of time. However, I was curious about what the class would entail, so I asked one of my friends who took the course his freshman year. He said it was mostly group activities/assignments, and I would have to go around campus and take pictures of the places I went. He left out just how thought-provoking the lectures would be. My all-time favorite lecture in the class was mindfulness. I enjoyed doing the Go Picture Scribe (GPS) activities as well. It doesn’t just stop at a BSN; I plan on attending medical school, becoming a doctor and specializing in pediatrics. I try not to get overwhelmed by the details, such as the plethora of tests I have to take before, during and after nursing- or medical school. Instead, I try to direct my focus on doing my best in the classes I am currently taking. After all, the butterfly effect takes a hold of everything; something as small and simple as turning this assignment in on time, can and will eventually affect the outcome of my career. The present is the heart of my success, but I never lose sight of my goals. This is why mindfulness holds such enormous weight in my life; it’s all about the present. The research I’ll do for my group project will further inform me about what I have to look forward to career- and education-wise. Meeting with my advisor and getting on the right track for next semester, along with the other GPS activities I attended to familiarize myself with the campus, was very influential.
