Introduction: Sometimes, the most impactful people you may ever meet can Trojan Horse their way into your life. This was the case with me and my best friend, Jake Tokash. I remember our Middle School Graduation Ceremony, where I defeated him for Valedictorian. This came as a completely shock to me, and some other people as well. After the ceremony, I stood around for a little while waiting for the majority of people to leave. Once the hustle and bustle was over, I made my way towards the parking lot when he walked up to me. He stopped me and shook my hand. Then, looking me straight in the eyes, he matter-of-factly told me, "Congratulations! Now, if I ever lose to you again, I will shoot you!" We had been rivals since early …show more content…
During his freshman year of High School, he put together a bake sale to raise funds for a world hunger organization, Feed the People, that I was lucky enough to have been a part of. We worked with several other members of our school and we were able to have fun and raise awareness for world hunger, while also being able to raise $181 for the organization within a span of an afternoon. This was far from the first time he would participate in charitable events. He held a 30-hour famine (connected to the organization World Vision) with several other members of school which participated in a roadside clean-up and again raised awareness for world hunger. The group was able to raise $130 from the event. He also held another bake sale in July of 2013 that raised $285 dollars for Feed the People. Along with these events, he also regularly volunteered with Feed the People at local soup kitchens. His selflessness to not only participate in these events, but to also organize them is amazing to me, as he was a busy person already. However, that did not deter him from putting his time and effort into all of this. His strong belief in the cause also motivates him to want to put together more events and participate further in them, which inspires me to participate in more charitable causes …show more content…
Put simply, Jake is the best friend I could have ever ask for and is the friend that I try to be in my life. Jake is one of the few people I have ever met in my life who actually says what he means and will back it up time and time again. He will tell me what he thinks, and when we need a friend we have the trust between the two of us to be able to reach out to each other. He is not a person that will break someone 's trust, yet will not pander to the other person and always tell them what he thinks what they want to hear. His actions speak louder than words and would never leave someone high and dry. He actually keeps track of how long it has been since we last talked and will reach out to me, not letting us go several months without catching up because he wants to keep in touch. There have been so many people in my life that have said they would do such things, and normally it would be me that actually hold up that promise. With Jake, I know I have a friend that I can talk to for hours upon hours, waxing poetic about how amazing movies can be, then go into a serious (but slightly ludicrous) conversation where we work together to come up with a mathematically sound formula that would approximate how many children a person could have in their lifetime, while later having a serious conversation that will turn into what can only be described as," Off the Wall Joke Time!".
