Graduation Speech: A Brave New Girl

Decent Essays
It's scary to be out here as in out in a 'new girl in high school' kind of way, airing my opinions which may or may not be same as yours. Oh and to have people think I'm a parenting expert: Uh, what she say?. I most certainly I'm not. Like you, I'm just a brave new girl stepping out into the matrix of life.

Fit to nurture is born out of the realization that no matter how young or old I am, how crazy or sane I am, how emotionally battered or sound I am..., I've been given (or taken, thank you!) an awesome gift and do I deserve it (or maybe I don't). Still, I'm the best parent for my kid and yes I don't meet half the requirements of your 'perfect parent' checklist. I know! Talk to the hand.

As long as I want to be, long as I'm ready to take my negatives (and boy are they plenty), turn them into teachers, and create a hell of a healthy experience from them, I am fit to nurture this child. I believe it to be true because he laughs more than he cries or at least as much as he cries; hey it's good to blow off some steam sometimes, even the experts say so. We all need a healthy outlet to em, cool off.

All those strange super powers they talk about, "Potty training in three days"; yeah, right. "Breastfeeding comes naturally"; doesn't seem so to me. Yes I'm deeply imperfect, so what? There's no day I wake up doubting that I'm fit and perfect to nurture this child.

This is my journey to mom, and some tips from the eh 'experts' specially for those times when we feel a little 'help me please, I'm losing my mind'. We do have to stay sane.

My name is Lily and you are fit to

Raising a child is one of if not the biggest responsibilities many people will ever take on throughout their life. Yet parents are often uneducated on how to raise a child, or they simply lack the essential qualities that all successful parents possess. Take Ashleigh’s father-a character in the short story “Ashes” by Susan Beth Pfeffer- as an example. Ashleigh’s father’s ability to perform the necessary obligations as a parent is deeply impaired by his personality. Right off the bat, Ashleigh’s father is introduced as a very irresponsible and unreliable parent.…

Ellen’s speech, in my opinion, was informative. She commenced to tell the audience about her life before stardom, letting everyone know that she worked several different jobs that paid about minimum wage. Almost every college student can relate to that scenario, going to classes and working one or two jobs just to make ends meet while in college. Then she went on to talk about how she had no ambition and felt lost and didn’t know what she wanted to do.…

During our journeys in life we have amazing individuals who will come along beside us and empower us to go after our goals, grab hold of our purpose and fly towards our destiny with confidence no matter what. Most times those individuals will not even realize the impact that they have had on our life until the time comes when they are recognized during a particular speech, remembrance with other individuals, or just through a simple conversation between the two years later. Throughout my life experiences, I have had the honor to have amazing individuals come along side and empower me to see a possible future, and believe it can be obtained. I will be recognizing these individuals; these mentors who encouraged and had the ability to see ahead what others could not see and to help me navigate a course to my destiny to be a part of a movement that will impact the destinies of the next generations. During my Freshman year at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I became a teacher intern with the UTC Strings Project program, which focused on instrumental methods of string instruments for elementary through middle school.…

Parents are like superheroes of their children “after seeing my mother 's disappointed face once again, something inside of me began to die” (Schillb). Effective parenting is being aware of your children; listening to your children, monitoring their physical health, but the utmost, helping their emotional health. In the end, most parents just want to provide for their children and take care of them. Some parents are not active enough in their children 's life, or some take it too far. The Mother in Two Kinds by Amy Tan portrayed ineffective parenting due to her impossible high standards; however, parents in The Perils of Parenting in the Digital Age have characteristics of proper parenting because of their awareness of the children’s career.…
