Fit to nurture is born out of the realization that no matter how young or old I am, how crazy or sane I am, how emotionally battered or sound I am..., I've been given (or taken, thank you!) an awesome gift and do I deserve it (or maybe I don't). Still, I'm the best parent for my kid and yes I don't meet half the requirements of your 'perfect parent' checklist. I know! Talk to the hand.
As long as I want to be, long as I'm ready to take my negatives (and boy are they plenty), turn them into teachers, and create a hell of a healthy experience from them, I am fit to nurture this child. I believe it to be true because he laughs more than he cries or at least as much as he cries; hey it's good to blow off some steam sometimes, even the experts say so. All those strange super powers they talk about, "Potty training in three days"; yeah, right. "Breastfeeding comes naturally"; doesn't seem so to me. Yes I'm deeply imperfect, so what? There's no day I wake up doubting that I'm fit and perfect to nurture this child.
This is my journey to mom, and some tips from the eh 'experts' specially for those times when we feel a little 'help me please, I'm losing my mind'. We do have to stay sane.
