Almost every college in the nation has a psychology program, but Tufts has something more. Instead of offering only general psychology to undergraduate students, this school offers a concentration in clinical psychology. I want to make the most of every year I spend in school, which I can do best by going to Tufts and majoring in clinical psychology, which will help me reach my two…

MANDATORY: Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university. Although it took me quite some time to realize, I have been preparing for my major and career all my life. When I started fifth grade, my teacher fostered my love for reading by challenging me to read books that were much more difficult for my grade level because they addressed heavy subjects. He recommended that I read Flowers for Algernon, and it became the very first book that made me feel shock, heartbreak, joy, and frustration all in a single read.…

As a child growing up, my parents always had the idea of me being a surgeon or a dentist. For as long as I could remember they’ve always told me that “life sciences were the only majors that would provide me with a solid job”. As a result, I majored in biology, which led to a miserable freshman year, as well as the first semester of my sophomore year. In due time, I started following my own path, and focused on what I wanted to achieve for myself. I started taking PSY2012, Intro to Psychology as a requirement during the fall, and immediately found myself feeling excited to go class everyday just to learn what new tricks the human brain could do.…

Originating from a small town was unquestionably discouraging for the reason that I was surrounded by shiftless, narrow-minded people who let life get in the way of their success. My community had reachable goals and realistic dreams, but it was rare for someone to actually achieve then. Gradually I noticed the stress of work and life itself taking away the hope and perseverance of the ones willing to succeed. Therefore being around abandoned dreams made me believe that life offered few opportunities for young people with ambition like me. Instead of giving up I used the negativity as motivation.…
