From three years of age, my family and I escaped to Malaysia from the dictatorial regime of Burma. Because of the devastating circumstance, I discovered my passion. We arrived in Malaysia with no knowledge of the language, the culture, the education, in conclusion – everything. In my parents’ possession was their business mindsets and their determination. They opened up a little business, and that little restaurant was my first real home. I grew up between the noises of people chattering, waiters rushing, television broadcasting, and the smell of food. Every day was a new adventure for me, that lasted for almost half of my lifetime. Fortunately, through United Nations, we were able to go to America and pursue our American Dream. History …show more content…
I dedicated most of my free time to work at the market to get hands-on experience, and I work diligently to ensure that I excel at school. My primary school did not offer business related classes so I started taking business management classes in secondary school. Working cooperatively with others is a life skill that I learned from years of working together with my parents at the restaurant and at the market. I have known that I wanted to study business administration; however, I kept my options open and also explored other business branches, such as marketing and entrepreneurship. At my high school, entrepreneurship class was only offered to grade 11 and grade 12. Driven by my intense passion, I underwent a tedious process of getting permission to let me take that class as a grade 10 student. A school day at my school consists of nine classes, but I took ten classes as a grade 10 student. My friend introduced me to DECA, stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, and it is a marketing class. My nine classes were filled, with mostly honor classes, and I knew my school life was going to be hectic. Nevertheless, I knew I had to take the marketing class. I communicated with the marketing teacher, and she placed me in a class that begins before the regular classes. With that, I had a marketing class that begins at 6:55AM, and loved it. I

As a junior at Northville High School, I am already discovering my passion for business through my participation and leadership roles in organizations such as DECA. I have obtained not only extensive marketing and general business knowledge through self-studying for competitive tests, but also practical communication, presentation, and sales skills while representing various business professionals in judged roleplay scenarios. I have placed at the district, state, and international level in my events, and this year I will have competed at the International Career Development Conference for my third year. These experiences give me a good foundation of understanding business concepts, and I plan to learn more about how businesses operate in the global market through the Business is Global program at the Kelley School of Business.…

So staying in the dorms was an interesting opportunity to really test my newfound patience. I also learned many valuable life lessons and received an abundance of helpful advice at SouthWestern Michigan College. Being proactive instead of reactive was one of the best sayings I ever heard in Business 201 – Principles of Management with Stacey Horner. This is one of the best classes I could recommend to anyone, reading “Who Moved My Cheese” is what in fact inspired me. Several other helpful classes I would recommend are; Educational Exploration, Intro to Computer Technology, Intro to Meetings and Events, Professionalism Workshop, Business Law I, Micro and Macro Economics, Human Resource Management, and Two Dimensional Design.…

I am planning on majoring in either biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. I am also going to be on a pre-medical track because my end goal is to hopefully become wither a pediatrician or neonatologist.…

An aspect of high school I learned over the period of four years truly fits a common used cliche: it’s what you make of it. Throughout these fours years the amount of opportunities around me were incredulous and although not all of them could be seized, I beleive I made the most of my high school career. And when I say opportunities this includes not only a time of “free” education in the classroom, but also opportunities outside the classroom and my surrounding community. Building character and leadership skills is just like building a skyscraper; once the foundation is cemented in the ground each opportunity we have in our lives we must add another story to the structure. High school is a period of time where not only the precedent is cemented in but also where the skyscraper can rise from the ground to the sky.…

At the same time, I also experienced a tremendous culture-shock. I had problem socializing with my peers and understanding life here. My first year of being in the U.S. consisted of two objectives: to learn English and the American culture. Thankfully in high school, I was lucky enough to be able to find the most supportive environment. I was part of the AVID program at my school as well as participating in my school’s College Ambassadors program.…

Growing up I have always dreamed of starting my business and managing every detail in it, I started studying the most famous businesses and what the imperfections in these businesses are, just to make sure that in the future if I do start my business, I do not make these mistakes. Starting a small business can be easy, but I always think through on how I can make it big and successful. The reasons I wish to study business administration is that I believe that if I graduate with this degree, I can become qualified to work in many business fields such as finance, accounting, and other aspects of the "money business". Most of my family members are currently working on their businesses ( banks, boutiques, restaurants, etc...), this encourages…

Throughout this class I have learned many skills that I can take with me throughout my business career. I believe the ultimate goal of this class was to essentially aid my classmates and I in getting a job and how to properly act in a business environment. These skills I have learned have ultimately made me a more respectable candidate when it came to applying for a job as well as giving me a different perspective regarding the business world as a whole. Throughout this class we have had many projects relating to basically all the obstacles students have regarding acquiring an internship or a full time job. First I was taught about the 30-second elevator speech, and then I was shown how to have a more professional resume, cover letter, and…

I take great pride in being the first doctor in my family and often reflect on the reasons I have been so successful in my endeavors. Having a brother with a congenital heart disease gave me an opportunity to care for others from a very young age, which has since developed into a strong desire to be in a medical field to reduce the suffering. Two questions formed in my young mind: what is inside the human body, and how does disease develop? These same questions fostered my journey in medical school as I explored the pathophysiological processes behind disease development, leading me to pursue medicine. My decision to go abroad for medical school is what allowed my inner qualities of relentless desire, obdurate dedication, and uncompromising discipline to manifest.…

I will be describing the first time I visited my parents’ family in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for five weeks without the company of my parents during the summer of 2015. It was also the first time I rode on an airplane, which was why I felt a bit nervous about the whole journey. During my time in Malaysia, I’ve learned many things and experienced life in an unfamiliar environment. However, my aunt, my sister, and my cousins were there with me and helped me enjoy my time of stay without feeling alone and lost. I was really nervous when I met my relatives for the first time, but I was also excited at the same time.…
