Grade 11-Personal Narrative

I lay restlessly in a bed that wasn’t mine. The soft lapping of waves outside echoed around the room. Through the window the stars shine brightly in the navy blue sky. Repressed thoughts of the horrible year I had bubble up to the surface. Grade 11 was finished and I was nowhere near ready for grade 12. I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted anymore and I lost my best friend. She tossed me to the side as she grew into a completely different person. One who wanted to be with the popular crowd, party constantly and spend her time with boys. What hurt the most was that it didn’t end in a fight; she simply decided I wasn’t good enough. “It’s not that scary you know,” says a voice behind me.
“Are you kidding? Why would you do that?”
“You’ll never understand unless you try”
I began spinning my rings around my finger, a habit I developed when I become nervous. The more people that jumped, the more my heart raced and the faster my rings spun. I reluctantly turned around to face the mysterious voice and was greeted by a tall tanned boy, my age. Our eyes locked. His eyes were as blue as the sea below and his hair glistened in the sun. He smiled at me and my heart skipped a beat.
“Come jump with me!” he asked as he climbed onto the rail.
I shook my head and stared at my feet. Once again my anxiety was making decisions for me. I didn’t have a choice. Disappointment washed over his face as he began to stand.
“What’s your name?”
“Rosie.”
“I’m Alex.”
He smiled and leaped off the railing, landing gracefully in the water. I held my breath waiting for him to resurface. His head popped up from the water and I heard him laugh as he waved. Trying to compose myself I walked to the pool and joined my family. I drifted from one end to the other. One particular thought was stuck on my mind: why would those people want to do something like

When I entered the room, my sister, sitting at the table finishing her homework, chirped, “Did you like my drawing?” Turning with a carton of milk in hand and pouring myself a glass, I asked, “What?” “The one I put in your room two days ago,” she replied with an incredulous whimper in her voice. “Oh yes,” I replied, “I can’t wait to see it!” I walked into my room and the drawing sat atop my dresser, unnoticed and neglected.…

Waves crashed over rocks tall enough to pierce the sky as we reached the shore in the dinghy. I stepped into the crystal clear water and saw a plethora of seagulls around the rocky hills. “I’ll pick you up here in about 2 hours,” our charter captain called as he drove away, “Enjoy the Baths!” We started our trek to the beach, my mom and dad leading and my sister Emily and I trailing behind. As we reached the beach Emily grabbed my hand and pulled me ahead to see the beach.…

That Day in Fourth Grade “People come into our lives for a reason, bringing something you must learn, and we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them and we help them in return. -Glinda” One of my best friends today, Teonna Frye, has influenced a lot of the choices that have made me into who I am today. Back in Middle School on a class trip, a group of my friends were engaging in an activity late at night that I knew was against the rules. They assumed that nobody had seen them although my roommates and I were fully aware of the situation. It was tough to decide whether to tell an adult what they did because of the possible punishments that could affect my friends. I figured that I would give them a day to come forward themselves and do the right thing, but they did not. The next day I told one of the teachers what happened and they later had a meeting with all of those involved.…

The night was chilly, laying in bed I coughed and looked in the corner of my eye to see my sister, Ana get a wet, cold towel to put on my forehead. My father had left to go to a church conference that night, leaving me alone at our house to rest. But before he left he told me he would make trips to see how I was doing. I begged him not to leave me, because he follows me. He visits me in the evenings, and touches me, and he stares at me, and plays with my long hair.…

No one ever expected it. No one knew, that, after already coming out of the World War just over two decades past, that the World War would have to be given the title “First” in front of its name because a second World War was about to happen, a worst war, filled with violence, atrocities, the only use of nuclear weapons and finally, the worst of them all, was the Holocaust. I was just a boy of 11 at the time. All I wanted was to eat and run around and make fun of my teachers with my friends, and for my family to be safe. Alas, it was not to be.…
