It has always been my goal to attend grad school. When I first decided to attend college as an undergraduate, I was certain that I would go to medical school, because I had a passion for helping others however, that dream was deferred due to my experiences in college. I realized that Biology was not my strongest area of interest; consequently, I changed my major to Psychology. My ability to befriend the common person and my empathy has brought many to seek my advice. The way that I can relate and understand individuals has made me look within to see how I can use those qualities to help others and have it be a profession. I want to love my career and I want it to love me back so I have decided to study the field of Psychology in hopes of bringing change to those around me. I fell in love with student affairs as an undergraduate student. While a student at Indiana State University my involvement in all things on campus sparked an interest in student affairs. I was blessed to be able to continue my studies at Murray State University; however, the program focus was no longer higher education administration. It was human development and leadership. While not exactly what I wanted to get my degree in, I was still able to work in student affairs. I was awarded a graduate fellowship that allowed me to work in the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Working in this office allowed me to develop a deep passion for not just all students, but students of color specifically students of color. My passion for developing student leaders through transformational leadership, proactive and intrusive advising, and the desire to help all students but, especially at risk students, become resilient and reach their potential lead me to believe I can be an asset in this
