Grace Is Gone Analysis

The movie Grace Is Gone by James Stokes, is a remarkable movie about a family who are going through the lost of loved one, and don’t know how to take the next necessary steps to move on. Grace is Gone, is a movie that I wouldn’t think would hit home with me from simply reading the title. Little to be told, at different moments in the movie I had to stop myself from shedding tears, because I am a daughter of a man who is in the military. For the twenty out of my twenty-four years of life my dad has been fighting for this country. I sympathize with Dawn and Heidi especially, because my worst nightmare turned into their reality and that is something that I prayed will never happened to my dad. Grief, love, and acceptance are key themes in the movie and that how we see Stanley, Dawn and Heidi get through the lost of Grace.
The character that I connected with the most is Heidi, because of lot of maturity comes from her having to step in and play the mother role when her mom is deployed and especially now since she is gone. Her ability to over analyze and …show more content…
Stanley put his feelings and his time to grief on the back burner many times throughout the movie. He becomes numb to the situation. He tries to block it out and not really deal with it. He refuses the counseling that the military will provide for him, and he even refuses the casserole that was on the front porch for the family in loss of Grace. He tries to find that escape, by taking the girls on a road trip where he stops at his mother’s house, probably looking for her to comfort him and giving him advice on how to tell the girls what has happened, but she isn’t there. He has an emotional breakdown but doesn’t wait on her to come home he just packed the girls up and keeps on moving to the next location and still at this point he is running away from actually grieving the loss of
