Stanley put his feelings and his time to grief on the back burner many times throughout the movie. He becomes numb to the situation. He tries to block it out and not really deal with it. He refuses the counseling that the military will provide for him, and he even refuses the casserole that was on the front porch for the family in loss of Grace. He tries to find that escape, by taking the girls on a road trip where he stops at his mother’s house, probably looking for her to comfort him and giving him advice on how to tell the girls what has happened, but she isn’t there. He has an emotional breakdown but doesn’t wait on her to come home he just packed the girls up and keeps on moving to the next location and still at this point he is running away from actually grieving the loss of
