Eulogy For Grace Church

Greg Miller and Nathan Komlanc went Grace Church at 5905 E Southport Road in Indianapolis on September 25th, 2016. There motto was “Grow in the and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” It was a decent size church made of bricks that sat just over 350 people. The church was made on a carpeted basketball court with basketball goals raised to the ceiling. There were crosses placed in the back of the stage and on the podium. They also had two big screens to display videos or the scripture being discussed. It wasn’t a very loud church. They sung for the first 30 minutes at a little louder than normal tone. The pastor looked to be in his late 50’s to lower 60’s but didn’t let his age control his personality. He told several jokes the audience laughed at during his service. The church was also very friendly. We had multiple conversations with different people about our first time there and how it went. Grace Church follows the religion of Evangelical Christianity. When he talked about “what he has done” he spoke of the taking away judgements and cited Romans 8:1, Ephesians 2:2, and John 16:11 to prove his point. In Romans it states “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit” which means he guards against condemnation for all those who follow him and this point it reiterated in Ephesians and John. He goes on to say how “The devil was defeated on the cross” and how the lord has cast out the enemy as was said in I John 4:4, John 14:7, and Matthew 28:20. In I John 4:4 it says “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” and this makes the point clear that there is no enemy that can compare to the lord if you “Come into our

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

At St. James, the pastors are all older men who have no energy, and seem to cough and spit into the microphone about unknown subjects. Conversely, my pastor at NFT is a very energetic young man in his early thirties who runs around the church, jumps on pews, reenacts things from certain experiences, and tells personal stories and encounters to capture the attention of the audience in a pleasing and meaningful way. This difference is the largest between these two churches and was the deciding factor when it was time for me to find my new…

As I stand here today, speaking to you, I am filled with great sorrow. The death of my sister, the loving and caring Marilyn Cross, has affected every one of us here in a unique way. Marilyn had many friends, and no enemies as everyone she met became one of her many acquaintances. She was a young and innocent girl who was unaware of the harsh laws that the frontier incorporated. All she wanted to do was visit me on Woden before she moved to Mimir, as she got a job opportunity there for her astounding skills in linguistics.…

Grace Baptist Church kindly welcomed my attendance to the first religious service I have been to in over a decade. Each member is actively involved in the church community as well as local charities. Overall positive, the experience enlightened my comprehension of the congregation’s convictions pertaining to religious values and where they are derived from. Pleasantly greeted as well as given a compassionately farewell the members of the church treated me with the utmost respect. Nonetheless, members do not always welcome individuals nicely, such as those within the LGBTQ+ community are not readily accepted as easily.…

Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead is a mother, activist, and professor. In her speech for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Memorial Convocation “From Black Power to Black Lives Matter,” she asked her audience, “What can you do and what are you doing?” This question resonated with me for I have asked myself the same question. When faced with the news of brutality and more lost souls, I cannot help but wonder what can be done about such injustice? This pain and disregard for human life, especially for those of color, has continued to be a systematic issue for centuries.…

I also attended the P.U.T.J Christian Academy and graduated from the school in 2010. Since this is the only place of worship I grew up attending I had a wide variety of denominations to choose from for my assignment. I chose to attend Grace United Methodist Church which is part of the mainline protestant denomination but it’s roots come from Evangelicalism.…

The homily written by Rev. William J. Reese was preached in Minnesota in April of 2012. It is based off of the passage John 3:16. “God so loved the world that he gave his only son begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This homily focuses on many aspects, however, the most important messages being God’s never ending love and the importance of continuous faith/belief. I went to the Conservative one, which was entirely in Hebrew. The prayers were read by Ohio State students, and at the end of the service, any student interested in reading prayers in an upcoming service were encouraged to express their interest. Throughout the services, there were many ways to see differences in practice of faith, even within the same denomination. While praying, some turned to face east, the direction of the Temple of Jerusalem, while some stood facing forward; other times, some performed a bowing action while reciting prayers, while others stood…

I loved how the pastor and his family seem real and you can relate to them. One example I have is when my daughter went to church when she was in high school and I would tell her put the phone away. Then today at service, I see the pastor daughter on Facebook while her father is preaching and her mother beside her and she is on her phone as well during this time. She also has conversation with the other adults across the row and threw a piece of gum.…
