Government Impositions on School Lunches Despite the belief that the government is making the lunches within schools better for the students, it becomes more of a bane in the end. Allowing the government to impose their opinions and beliefs on what children should eat during school should not be allowed at any point. Although there are both benefits and difficulties with following the lists of allowed food products, it becomes a bane for the school board. For schools to properly follow the food program that Michelle Obama has created, they were forced to cut back on certain products. Rather than continuing with their original lunches, schools follow the new federal law so that they receive government funding. If a school bails from the program, their funding is removed. Throughout the course of this law, many schools have decided to drop out due to the lack of nutrition that they are allowed to provide to the students. Along with the lack of nutrition, many students refuse to eat their lunch and end up wasting millions of dollars by simply throwing it in the trash. In some cases, schools donate the lost food and turn them into feed for farms. Also, as a result of the release of the act, many students have refused to pay for their lunch and either do not eat, or they simply bring in their own meals. This is a good thing to do, though, as the meals provided are not nutritious by themselves. When students decide to bring their lunches to school, they can make sure to get both enjoyable and nutritious food items. When the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” was signed into federal law, organizations such as the School Nutrition Association immediately became Michelle’s enemy. Rather than actually making kids healthier by changing the food requirements, many are just simply not eating at all. In retrospect to this statement, not eating at all is worse than eating junk in a way. The initial intentions of the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” were well placed, but they were not carried out efficiently. The form of character that was pushed onto the public school systems was not a proper one, and left many people to become frustrated with the federal government. While they are all sitting within their offices eating their non-fat free foods with all of the salt in the world, the future of the United States are not eating at all. The changes made by the government were not for the better, as well as they made everything for kids of all ages worse than it was before the reform. As Tom Colicchio once said based on his opinion of obesity in America, “This is what people don 't understand: obesity is a symptom of poverty. It 's not a lifestyle choice where people are just eating and not exercising.
