The majority of the United States’ population would describe their nation as a true democracy, but yet the same people from the same population would also argue that their government holds too much power. It is in the nature of man to want to be in complete control of his land and his way of life, but yet he doesn’t want to have to defend it on a daily basis. This universal enigma is why we have established systems of government. The key to this dilemma is to try to achieve a balance of power between the population and government that rules over them. How do you prevent a system of government from eroding the essential liberties that free men have the right to inherit?…

I also agree with you that representative democracy is more effective, especially because of the large population in the United State. Granting, in representative democracy the people chooses a representative to make law and enforced then, if the people believe he or she is not doing his job appropriately nor he or she is following the rules and regulation, the people can put in motion the process to remove the representative from office, although, this only apply to local elected officials. Also, even though there were no conviction congress had impeached two presidents for misconduct. Not saying that everything is good, but in a way, we do have a say and not every law fail it citizens I also agree with you that representative democracy…

Hello Kwynnci, In our nation, we are a representative democracy, that if we wish not to be in direct relationship with a political process, we can have our representatives make decisions on our behalf that aid in governing the people and laws. Although our democracy is indirect, it does not take away our right to completely eliminate our say in the government, we still have a voice and the freedom to express our dissatisfaction (legal protest), it would appear that this is in effect would be a straightforward process and a highly efficient form of government. Therefore, do we have the right to complain? I had to reflect on this notion because it is true as you stated that we should not consider our freedom to elect, as burdensome, but a privilege…

    Representative Democracy

Is it fair for a state with a population of only 500,000 to have more voting power over a state with a population of over 37 million? That is the reality in the United States. The constitution and political system in the U.S have many aspects that are both democratic and non-democratic. Democratic can be defined as “favoring or characterized by social equality; egalitarian” or in other words, fair; whereas undemocratic can be defined as the opposite (“democratic”). When considering the system of a representative democracy, the electoral college, the Supreme Court and the Constitution itself, it is evident that even though they were perhaps made with the intent of somewhat equal representation, they are flawed in ways which make them undemocratic.…

Our Founding Fathers went with a national government that would be strong enough to bring together all of the states as one, but not to strip them of their independence (N.A. n.d.). Had they not gone this route, the chances are the ratifying conventions in several of the states would not have approved the Constitution. Some possible reasons for a federal system are, it creates a loyalty between the states, and its people, trying to run a country that covers almost 4 million squares mile from a central point would be tough, giving local people a chance to solve local problems is a lot easier, it gives people a chance to become involved in government, it also helps keep the states working, and running, if somehow someone, or a group of people managed to control the three branches of government.…

As Winston Churchill once said, “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” The world seems to have embraced this idea, making democracy, at least for now, the most ideal form of government possible.
