Government Monitoring Internet

I believe that the government has some federal duty to monitor internet content. Since the internet is such a profitable place to buy and sell goods we, as a country, need some sort of policy of the government's involvement in monitoring the internet. We are able to do, search, buy and sell practically anything on the internet so there has to be some sort of limit to the things that are on the internet. In the cases of someone buying guns and such those people being linked with terrorism, seeing what they bought on the internet would be important to the people on the case. People should be able to access everything that is not against the law. The government should be able to see all that is potentially harmful to the government and should monitor it accordingly. If we give people the freedom, they will not even think about using the internet for bad purposes but if we restrict the internet, they will want to rebel. This was the case in the early 1900's. Alcohol was banned by the government and the people did not listen. They bootlegged the alcohol because they did not have the access to it. Then in the 1920's, or the roaring 20's the ban on alcohol was lifted and everyone was partying. Many books and movies show this time in history including an American classic, The Great Gatsby where Gatsby displays his magnificent parties and wealth. This can be translated to the internet. If we ban the internet, people will find a way around it. Also if the government bans a part of the internet, people will find ways around that as well. Teenagers in this society have to be somewhat internet savvy to survive everyday life. Most teenagers are more internet savvy than the basic adult person because the teenager has grown up with the internet and find it interesting because of the constant stream of new
